Aardman Animations is wrapping up its fourth year of work for BBC 3, featuring The Blobs. The Blobs originated at Aardman as simple character created for a lip-synch test. When BBC launched a new channel in Feb. 2003, it hired Aardman to create a brand personality and identity for the network. The BBC wanted something creative, humorous, unusual and that would make viewers aware of the network's alternative program offerings, which are geared toward a youth audience. So Aardman thought its Blobs character fit the bill and developed them for the ID spots.
