An Animated Autobiographical Dōjinshi

Angel YauYou don’t need a million dollar budget to become a filmmaker: Looking at this short animated film by Angel Yau reminded me a great deal of an animated version of dōjinshi (同人誌) which are self published comic books in Japan. Even though this video was done on an ultra low budget Yau’s storytelling skills had me hooked from the first frame through the last.

I also like the sense of humor in this film because it has a very gentle quality which is so hard to pull off in a world full of harsh sarcasm. After watching a film like this I’m always reminded that filmmaking is firstly about what you want to say to the world.

Side note: I really like how Angel actually hand animated an online chat, it was a brilliant creative device to show an every day activity in a new light.
