A Fanboy Follow-up; Obishawn, the Man Behind the H-Wing

Shawn "Obishawn" Crosby

The other week, we posted some photos of this amazing Star Wars-themed car mod known as the H-Wing. Shortly after that,  I was contacted via Facebook by the man who built it, Shawn “ObiShawn” Crosby, who provided some additional info about the vehicle and his work. ObiShawn works as a toy, prop and game designer, and had constructed the car’s modifications himself — an effort he attributes as the culmination of these interests. So what was it that really impressed me?

Turns out that Crosby and his car often attend charity and community events — as many as 160 a year. We’re talking everything from Children’s Hospital, to schools and blood drives. Of course, he doesn’t always do it alone. He sometimes joins organized costume groups at these events, such as the 501st and Rebel Legion. Doing so, in his words, is “”A great way to promote fandom, community and philanthropy whilst remaining a geek, ” and I couldn’t agree more.

Finally, ObiShawn mentioned to me that he’s currently hard at work on the successor to the H-Wing — the Z-Wing, a Nissan 350z Roadster. It actually kind of makes me grimace to think of someone applying the necessary battle-damage to such an awesome car, but I’m sure when it’s all said and done, it’ll look great. Hopefully he’ll send us some pictures when it’s ready.
