Fox Pulls the Plug on Terra Nova

Terra Nova

Well, I can’t say I didn’t see this coming — Fox has decided to cancel Terra Nova, and will not be renewing the series for a second season. The series seemed popular enough to sustain an audience, but viewership declined over the course of its 13 episode run, leaving studio execs with the choice of footing the bill for the show’s enormous budget, or cutting their losses. Given Fox’s track record with shows like Firefly and The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I’m sure everyone could have guessed which option they’d pick. That being the case, the series did seem to suffer from poor writing, and the premise didn’t seem all that original to begin with.

To offer a bit of hope, Collider reports that 20th Century Fox plans on shopping the series to other networks, but that the chances of that actually happening are slim to none. To be honest, I couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to pick it up either. It’s not that I don’t have faith that the show could be successful, but the only networks that would seem interested, such as SyFy, or TNT, already have their own big-budget Sci-Fi productions in the works. TNT’s second season of Falling Skies looks incredible so far, and Syfy’s Defiance might just serve as an excellent replacement for Terra Nova.
