Alright everyone, I’ve got some bad news: it seems that Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been cancelled. Wait, what’s that? You’re not surprised? That look of apathy and disinterest you’re giving me is surely the result of something else, right? After six years of waiting, I suppose people just gave up hope, especially with so little news on every front. While this is still a rumor, let’s just say it the most obvious and sensible rumor we’ve heard in a while.
Kotaku reported that according to their source, the game is officially done for. As recently as May, Versus designer Tetsuya Nomura had mentioned that they would like to share news of the game’s development, but refrained from going into any more detail than that. Another source indicated that Versus’ had been folded into the next mainline Final Fantasy game, which it certainly no surprise either. Perhaps we’ll see remnants of Versus in future Final Fantasy games, or maybe it will just fade away, a memento of Square Enix’s ambitious HD console generation plans.
