Tomb Raider Collector's Edition

You can’t have a new AAA game come out anymore without offering a collector’s edition or limited edition of some sort with additional goodies that only hardcore fans care about. (Considering that even new IPs come out with collector’s editions, targeting fans who haven’t played the game yet seems odd.) The new Tomb Raider reboot is no exception, with a collector’s edition being made in limited quantities.

Come March 5, you can get this package for $100. Besides the game, the collector’s edition comes with a 5″ x 7″ lithograph, a 15″ x 19″ double-sided poster map, three iron-on badges, a soundtrack CD, and the highlight of the collection, an 8″ statue of Lara Croft. All this is contained in a survival kit tin. Of course, there are also some DLC weapons, but those always feel either superfluous or game-breaking, depending on how they’re implemented.

This is the first Tomb Raider game I’ve ever been interested in, due to the overhaul of the mechanics and the almost complete reinvention of the character. Still, I’m not sure if this edition is for me, but it may be more attractive to long-time Tomb Raider fans.
