Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut

Grab a cup of coffee, because Deadly Premonition is just about out on PS3. Originally released as Red Seeds Profile in Japan on both Xbox 360 and PS3, only the 360 version made it out to America thanks to Ignition Entertainment. But now Aksys is bringing the PS3-only Deadly Premonition: Director’s Cut out in America on April 30!

The cult hit is a Twins Peak-esque tale by Hidetaka “Swery65” Suehiro, and is quite a notorious game. When Deadly Premonition was first released, it received extremely polarizing reviews. Admittedly, the game is extremely rough, with dated graphics, bizarre voice acting, clunky combat, and a host of other issues. But surprisingly, it is greater than the sum of its parts, with everything contributing to a unique experience that has delighted many players.

This director’s cut of the game improves the graphics, revamps the combat to be more similar to seminal hit Resident Evil 4, and adds new story bits. As long as those changes don’t detract from the strange charm, I’m all for it, and now those who only have a PS3 can enjoy one of the strangest games of this generation.
