Iron Man 3’s Ending Could Have Been Even More Explosive

Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3 ended with lots of explosions and fire, without getting into too many spoilers. But according to artist Federico D’Alessandro’s animatics, a certain character could have had a small part in the climactic battle. Click through to find out and watch.

Midway through Iron Man 3, we learn that Ben Kingsley’s character isn’t actually the Mandarin, but merely a drug-addicted actor (Trevor) hired to play the part. At one point in development, Trevor was supposed to show up at the start of the final battle, raving about injecting Extremis, and then blow up. If I saw him show up again, I’d wonder if there was a twist where he was the actual Mandarin all along, only to be jolted away from that notion, so it’s understandable that this was cut.

Here’s two more deleted scenes in animatic form. I’m loving that the various suits are just black slabs, like the monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey has multiplied and is just kicking ass.
