Rumors Point To Harrison Ford’s Injury Delaying Star Wars Episode VII

It sounds like Harrison Ford’s recent injury may be worse than initially reported. The man who plays Han Solo was injured by a hydraulic door over a week ago while shooting Star Wars Episode VII. While initial reports stated it was a sprained ankle, it turns out that his leg was broken. That’s bad news, considering the actor is rumored to be the main lead in Episode VII, or at least to play a major part. Now rumors are swirling at Pinewood Studios of an emergency meeting to discuss what to do with a film that is due for release on December 18, 2015. Reportedly, the options being considered are rewriting Ford’s scenes, rewriting the whole script to reduce his role, or delaying the film.

While I’m sure Disney is very hesitant to delay Episode VII, I’m sure they also care enough about the quality to want to do this right (or close enough to “right” to let mainstream audiences enjoy the film), and if this is the direction they’re going with getting Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher, it only seems right to allow Ford to shine as Solo. (This is assuming Ford gives a better “returning old man” performance than Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.) And for that, production of his scenes may simply have to wait; the film may simply require a delay.

But hey, maybe Disney could use this extra time to put some more love and care into the film. As someone who works in the media industry, I can attest to the fact that more time is rarely a bad thing.
