Nintendo Reveals The Secret to Animal Crossing’s Success: More Women

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 31, 2014 in Videogames

AnimalCrossing

Animal Cross: New Leaf has been one of the most successful games on the Nintendo 3DS. Many chalk it up to the fact that people just like games that are slower-paced and allow you to customize everything, but Nintendo recently revealed the truth behind it at GDC: diversity. Half of the development team was made up of women, an anomaly in the game development industry. Aya Kyogoku, the woman in charge of directing New Leaf, said that it opens “you up to hearing a greater variety of ideas and sharing a greater diversity of ideas.” The full Wired interview with the team is incredibly fascinating, so I highly advise you check it out. A Winter Version of Animal Crossing’s Isabelle Comes to Visit

Posted by Ben Huber on Dec 1, 2013 in Hobbies and Collections, Videogames

32886-1012

The previous Nendoroid of Isabelle from Animal Crossing was so popular (and so adorable) that they’re bringing another one out, in her winter outfit! It includes a new “smug” face, star-shaped effects, “hands on hips” arms,  and arms in a stretched out pose. Apparently, it also comes with these new arms in “summer” versions, so if you own the existing Isabelle Nendoroid, you can spiff her up too. She’s available for pre-order now, but won’t arrive until April next year. You can pre-order her on AmiAmi, HLJ, Hobby Search, or CD Japan. More images below! Read more…

I know you guys are excited for this game because my Twitter and Facebook feeds have been lighting up as the game grows closer to release. Well wait no longer, because it’s out now! Nintendo has also uploaded a launch unboxing video to promote the game’s special edition 3DS XL. And if you’re completely lost on the appeal of Animal Crossing, fear not! Giant Bomb recently did a Quick Look of the game, featuring the crew running through each others’ houses. It’s great fun and one of the most laid-back games out there. Check it out below. Read more…

Be A Tourist In Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Posted by Bob Muir on Apr 9, 2013 in Videogames

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Sick and tired of the grind in Farmville? Why not chill out with the latest Animal Crossing game? Animal Crossing: New Leaf is coming to North American 3DS owners on June 9 (not today, like the trailer implies), and it looks like a game where you can do…things! I’ll be honest, I have never completely understood the appeal of this series, which has you gardening, decorating your house, talking with animal neighbors, and just sort of goofing around. But it’s popular enough to get a new installment on every Nintendo system since the GameCube, and this 3DS game is a giant hit in Japan, so it must be doing something right! Read more…

I know that Animal Crossing fans have been frothing at the mouth in anticipation of the next installment in the series (I know because I’m dating one). But the wait is finally over, as yesterday’s Nintendo Direct brough the best Valentine’s Day gift of all: game announcements and release dates. The always dreamy Bill Trinen confirmed that Animal Crossing: New Leaf will launch on June 9th, just a few days before E3 this year. He also mentioned that a new online functionality feature was being added to the game for the US release, but declined to mention what it was. Best part? No more doing chores for Tom Nook! Now you get to be the mayor! Watch the trailer after the break. Read more…

If you’re a diehard fan of the Animal Crossing series, then you’re sure to be very excited by the recent Japanese Nintendo Direct video released online by the House of Mario. It’s a 47-minute long video promoting the new features of the upcoming 3DS version of the game, which arrives in Japan this November, and early 2013 here in the US. While it’s all in Japanese, NeoGAF member StreetsAhead (who is definitely streets ahead) has translated much of the video here. Some of the highlights are below the break. Read more…
