Posted by Michael Pinto on Feb 9, 2010 in Star Wars

Stride Right Star Wars Sneakers

Shown above is a promotion for Stride Right Star wars sneakers from back in the day! And it seems that the great recession has hit The Force™ yet again as Payless ShoeSource and Stride Rite stores will be introducing a Star Wars show line in June or July. According to this article the line will feature Darth Vader and other characters (both cartoon and live action) from the George Lucas universe. If you buy the footwear at Stride Rite they’ll run from $35 to $55, but if you want to go to a lower budget Payless shoes will only be $15 to $20.

A Darker Darth Helmet

Ralph McQuarrie Darth Vader Concept Helmet

My first reaction when looking at this Ralph McQuarrie Darth Vader Concept Helmet collectable was “this makes him look even more evil than the original”. In terms of the design I think the reason is that this early take on Darth Vader is much more angular and lean-and-mean — also the infamous mask has a slightly anime feel to it, and I think that’s because you can see the dark samurai side of McQuarrie’s influence: Read more…

A Classic Greek Take on Star Wars from Japan

Star Wars Japanese Mini Busts

These Japanese Star Wars Mini Busts capsule toys remind me a great deal of classic Greek and Roman sculptures. I especially love the Han Solo that looks like Michelangelo’s David: Read more…

Exclusive: Yoda Loses His Head!

Posted by Michael Pinto on Nov 14, 2009 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

Star Wars 4GB Flash Drives

As if living on a swamp planet wasn’t bad enough poor master Yoda must suffer the extra humiliation of having to sit by and watch as his body is used to backup excel spreadsheets and photos of the family cat. Of course for a mere $40 you can recreate this horrific scene with the Star Wars 4GB Flash Drives which are available through ThinkGeek. In addition to Yoda you can decapitate the likes of Darth Vader, Boba Fett and some poor Stermtrooper: Read more…

Star Wars Mice from the House of Mouse on Etsy: Princess Leia Mouse

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away there were these cute little mice! I know this sounds like we’re kitbashing Star Wars with the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy but these adorable sci fi rodents are the precious creations of the House of Mouse and can be found on Etsy on their very own page. There are 14 mice in the entire collection so far and they run between $35 and $40, but bet of all if your favorite character is missing they’re open to doing custom orders. Shown above is Princess Leia mouse and below is Darth Vader mouse. Read more…

100% Polyester Little Star Wars Costumes Allow You to Pass on the 70s to the Next Generation

Posted by Michael Pinto on Dec 16, 2008 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

Little Star Wars Costumes

These Little Star Wars Costumes come in three sizes: Newborn, Infant and Toddler! The costumes are 100% kid safe, in fact the Darth Vader outfit features a detachable velcro cape and a “helmet” headpiece made from fleece. Although I sort of have mixed feelings about indoctrinating such young padawans into the ways of the force without proper training.

This Toast Has Turned to the Dark Side

Posted by Michael Pinto on Nov 7, 2008 in Star Wars

Darth Vader Toaster

For eons now we’ve all seen the classic Hello Kitty Toaster, so you knew it was only a matter of time until some other clever marketing dept. would swipe the idea. But what I find funny is that the Kitty toaster creates an emblem by leaving the Kitty face untoasted while the Darth Vader embraces the dark side of the toast by burning an insignia of Lord Vader into the middle of your breakfast:

Darth Vader Toaster

“If there’s something every Sith Lord knows how to do it’s make a balanced breakfast. While the Jedi have to live off of Jawa juice and fried nerfsteak, the Dark Lord of the Sith prefers to have a reminder of his fiery Mustafar defeat at his breakfast table. Every morning he burns that moment into a slice of bread with the Darth Vader Toaster. This black, ominous kitchen appliance easily leaves the mark of Vader’s helmet in every yummy piece of toast. Slather some Bantha butter on top, or make two pieces for an extra-Sithy BLT. Force power not required to operate toaster.”

A Jedi Knight Couch Potato Must Master the Lightsaber Remote

Posted by Michael Pinto on Oct 24, 2008 in Star Wars

This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight — NOT! As I write this post I fear that I’m contributing to the obesity of Star Wars fanboys (and fangurls) across the world, yet the dark side of the force makes me want to get my hands on the Star Wars TV/DVD with Lightsaber Remote. Although sadly I’m wondering if this item is from the UK if it would work with NTSC?
