It’s finally starting to sink in that the Deadpool movie is actually happening. Ryan Reynolds has been teasing out little details here and there, but now we’ve got our first full shot of him in costume as Deadpool. And it’s pretty much the perfect way to introduce the character. I wonder how well Deadpool is known to the general movie-going public? Even if awareness is low, I’m sure that fans will evangelize heavily for this film. Deadpool’s following is dedicated! The first official synopsis also came out for the film… and, well, it doesn’t say much of anything. Deadpool will open February 12th, next year. Read more…

Ryan Reynolds Teases Deadpool Mask

The Deadpool movie is still a year away, but that won’t stop Ryan Reynolds from teasing the costume on Twitter! The actor posted a sepia-tone photograph with the mask hidden in shadow… but you can still see it pretty well. Basically: it’s Deadpool’s mask. They’re turning away from X-Men: Origins entirely (as stated by Rob Liefeld) and starting fresh. Reynolds does joke that the “sepia tone disguises the fact the mask is ballerina pink.” Thanks to that leaked test footage, we’re actually seeing this movie come to life. Now let’s just hope it’s actually good, because Deadpool’s wisecracking style will be tough to translate to the big screen! Read more…

Ryan Reynolds Is Deadpool (Again) And Other Marvel Tidbits

Posted by Ben Huber on Dec 6, 2014 in Cinema, Comic Books

Yes, that Deadpool movie is really happening now. Ryan Reynolds will definitely return to play the merc with a mouth, the LA Times has confirmed. Not too surprising, since we knew Reynolds wanted to return to the role. In other news, Benedict Cumberbatch has also been officially confirmed as Doctor Strange. Surprise! And also on the plate: Krysten Ritter will play Jessica Jones in an upcoming Marvel Netflix series (essentially, she’s a washed-up superhero who opens up her own detective agency, which is a great concept for a show). Tons of casting, although Reynolds will probably never meet up with the other two. What a shame! Read more…

Fox’s Deadpool Movie Is Happening, But Will Be PG-13

Posted by Bob Muir on Sep 23, 2014 in Cinema, Comic Books

Deadpool

Hey, remember when Fox leaked that Deadpool test footage, but it wasn’t really them? Well whoever leaked it, it must have kicked Fox into gear, because director Tim Miller’s film is finally getting greenlit at Fox. Happy days! Now for the somewhat more iffy news: the movie is reportedly aiming for a PG-13 rating. Many fans assumed that a Deadpool movie would be a good fit for an R rating, allowing the character to slaughter enemies with as much cursing and gore as necessary. But considering how many superhero movies get an R (almost none), this shouldn’t be a surprise. And considering that Miller, a huge fan, has reportedly approved of a script that supposedly is PG-13 while managing to “not lose its soul,” I wouldn’t expect a PG-13 rating to negatively effect the film’s production. Fox Officially Releases Leaked Deadpool Test Footage

Posted by Bob Muir on Jul 30, 2014 in Animation, Cinema, Comic Books

Deadpool

Pretty much no one liked the version of Deadpool that appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Since having their hopes dashed with that film, fans have wished for a Deadpool movie that is accurate to the fourth-wall breaking comic book. Fox was experimenting with the idea, but with not much happening recently, the project seems to be dead. But wait: director Tim Miller’s fabled test footage (animated in CG by Blur Studio) has surfaced, and it’s surprisingly great. Ryan Reynolds returns as Deadpool, but he’s much more fun to watch, cracking jokes and illustrating his enemy’s upcoming death. Can we please have a movie like this? I don’t care if it’s tied into X-Men, I just think it would be fun to watch. Maybe the renewed interest in this test footage will give the project a boost? Read more…

Deadpool Finally Gets Some Direction

Posted by Michael Sacco on Apr 9, 2011 in Cinema, Comic Books

Deadpool

He’s superpowered! He’s weird-looking! He’s completely insane! He’s Deadpool, and his movie may finally have a director. The LA Times reports that Tim Miller, a visual effects wunderkind, has been given his first shot at the director’s chair for Deadpool. Miller, perhaps most well-known for this visual effects work in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, is the latest in a long line of possible Deadpool directors, including Robert Rodriguez and Adam Berg. Ryan Reynolds, who despite his busy schedule is still attached to the project, had high praise for the film’s fourth-wall-breaking script several months back. If you’re concerned about the choice of director, just remember that Zack Snyder directed commercials before he directed comic book movies. Take that how you will. Read more…
