A Time Machine to Keep You Clean

Tardis Soap

The funny thing is that when Dr. Who was being developed in 1963 the iconic police-boxes could be spotted all over London and where very commonplace — however in 21st Century England where cell phones are commonplace there are that many to be found anymore. So ironically the TARDIS itself is as much a celebration of a bygone British era as it is a prop from a well beloved science fiction series. This TARDIS-Soap is a great way to keep the series close to your heart every day while giving you a slight caramel-apple smell — and best of all for this fanboy the soap uses all vegan materials. The Cutest Dr. Who I Have Ever Seen

Posted by Michael Pinto on Jun 6, 2010 in Dr. Who, Hobbies and Collections

David Tennant crafted doll

Standing at ten inches tall this crafted doll of David Tennant is perhaps the first Time Lord that you’d want to adopt and take home! Although it should be pointed out that this is a collectable art toy and sadly not for the kids. The crafty Time Lord was created by GirlCalledRic who has a nice geeky shop on Etsy. Read more…

Watch Your Cookies Disappear Into Another Dimension

The Talking TARDIS Cookie Jar

Tragically the Talking TARDIS Cookie Jar doesn’t actually talk — however it does produce Dr. Who approved sound effects. Although if you’re looking for a more authentic experience make sure to fill your cookie jar with traditional English biscuits to enjoy with your tea and favorite Time Lord of choice.

The Genius of the Borg as a Plot Device

Posted by Michael Pinto on Feb 12, 2010 in Star Trek, Videogames

Picard as a BorgThe charm and the problem with the original Star Trek series was that there was never a mess that Captain james T. Kirk couldn’t get out of — and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan turned this aspect of the series into a stellar plot device. But looking at this promo video of Star Trek Online: Borg Faction made me realize that what makes the Borg a brilliant plot device is that not only do they outclass Federation technology, but on top of that they’re pure evil. Dr. Who Cell Phone Alert Charm

The Dr. Who Cell Phone Alert Charm comes in two flavors: Dalek (seen above) and Tardis. The catch is that these cell phone charms only work with 800 – 1600 MHz GSM network cell phones — but if you own one of those models the cell phone charm will light up when a call comes in. Read more…

What Would Happen If You Mixed Dr. Who and Lost in Space?

Posted by Michael Pinto on Jan 13, 2010 in Dr. Who

A clever fanboy in the UK edited together this nice mashup video which kitbashes Dr. Who with Lost in Space. Of course having a character called Dr. Smith seemed to help the creative process a bit. In terms of Lost in Space I was never in love with the show although I always watched it in re-runs as a kid, but years later I discovered that the pilot for the show was quite well done and lacked the comedy elements that turned me off as a child.

What Would Happen If You Mixed Dr. Who and Space:1999?

Posted by Michael Pinto on Jan 9, 2010 in Dr. Who, Television

The above fan mashed video kit bashes together the Dr. Who spacial The Waters of Mars with classic 70s sci fi series Space:1999. What this video reminds me of is just how well the opening titles of Space:1999 hold up — that powerful combination of the music and editing still hold up today.

Ten Doctors: However Some Are Better Than Others

Posted by Michael Pinto on Sep 9, 2009 in Dr. Who

This wonderful fan made video features a scenario which calls all ten incarnations of Dr. Who into action. The funny thing is that for me this video has the unintended consequence of making you compare all the actors who have played the good doctor since the 60s. I hadn’t realized how much I really appreciated Tom Baker or hated Colin Baker until you see them all side-by-side. And of course with Dr. Who the acting and the script are everything because if you hide behind a high special effects budget the show just lacks its unique flavor. Read more…

What Would Happen if Captain James T. Kirk Met Dr. Who?

Posted by Michael Pinto on Apr 12, 2009 in Dr. Who, Star Trek

I got a kick out of this fan made film which combines footage from the original Star Trek series with contemporary Dr. Who. The video is titled Doctor Who – Trek Through Time Part II – The Wrath Of Caan Parody Easter Special 2009 and is by Kelvington who has done a number of other well done projects which kitbash sci fi classics together.
