Star Wars: An Inbred Hope

Posted by Gia Manry on Aug 27, 2010 in Star Wars

Luke and Leia can't fight this feelin' anymore.

I had the unfortunate problem as a child of being the only girl in the entire known universe who preferred Luke Skywalker to Han Solo. (Don’t get me wrong, I dug Han, but he was definitely more of a “friend” for me, whereas reliable, hard-working Luke struck me as a better long-term bet.) So when it turned out Luke and Leia were siblings, I was as heart-broken as (I assumed) Luke was. Twenty-odd years later, this video made me feel better. Read more…

Star Wars Slave Leia Animated Maquette

We always vilify poor Jabba the Hutt, but in doing so we overlook the amazing criminal genius that created the Slave Leia look which would infiltrate the minds of countless young impressionable Star Wars fanboys for several generations. However sadly this wanton space fantasy was endangered when anime maid collectables started being produced from Japan en masse — so George Lucas had to do something: And thus we have the Star Wars Slave Leia Animated Maquette shown above.

Star Wars Trash Compactor Bookends Statue

It was nothing less than a historic moment when director George Lucas decided to feature a trash compactor scene in Star Wars: Sure Stanley Kubrick broke ground in 2001: A Space Odyssey by showing a bathroom scene — but it look the bold vision of Lucas to take us dumpster diving into a space station the size of a planet (or small moon if you want to quibble). And that why the Franklin Mint, err Gentle Giant Products has decided to commemorate this milestone in cinematic history with the Star Wars Trash Compactor Bookends Statue. Read more…

Star Wars Kokeshi Dolls

Kokeshi Doll: Princess Leia

These Star Wars Kokeshi dolls touched my heart as they perfectly combine the timelessness of Star Wars with the charm of Japanese craftsmanship. For those of you not in the know Kokeshi are traditional dolls from northern Japan — what makes them unique is that they’re made out of wood and always lack arms or legs, and they’re always hand painted. The artist behind these cute goodies is Muluc whose store on Etsy is called temple7e. Shown above is Princess Leia and below is Han Solo: Read more…
