Like most console launches, the Wii U is getting a lot of ports to fill out its launch window. A lot of these are pretty much what you’d expect, but Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition is getting some nice exclusive content to differentiate this version. Besides being able to draw on your characters with the GamePad to customize them, there are further customization options to make the Tekken characters look like Nintendo characters. That’s almost weird enough, but the extra content doesn’t end there. Read more…

Last week, during an event at San Diego Comic-Con International, I had the opportunity to sit down with a recent console build of Namco Bandai’s upcoming fighter, Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting to be stunned by the visuals, and I hadn’t expected any significant improvements in terms of actual gameplay. Much to my surprise, however, the game offers quite a few enhancements over its predecessor, Tekken 6.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Tekken. I know it’s not everyone’s fighting game of choice, but the series has remained successful throughout the years due in large part to its dedicated fan-base, of which I consider myself a member. While I love the gameplay, and even some of the zany story elements, I’ll be the first to admit that that the plot can be incredibly confusing. Thankfully the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2 won’t be adding to that. Instead, the game is considered non-cannon, allowing gamers to simply have fun with the Tekken universe. One of the modes to be included in the upcoming console release is the “Fight Lab Mode” — what’s that, you ask? Find out after the jump.
Capcom and Namco recently announced that the PS3 and Vita versions of Street Fighter X Tekken would feature several exclusive characters. We already knew about Cole from Infamous, but let’s just say the rest of the bonus characters are very, uh, unique. Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Kuro and Toro (the Japanese Sony mascots). And it’s not the usual Mega Man, it’s the cheesy American boxart Mega Man – which is either hilariously awesome or incredibly disappointing, depending on your point of view. Read more…

I don’t know how many of you play Street Fighter or Tekken, but I’m sure you’re probably aware of how over-the-top some of these characters look already. Now, thanks to the ability to customize the character with costumes and props, they’ve taken it even further. A batch of recently released screenshots gives us a glimpse of just how zany things can get. Why anyone would ever want to dress a bear like a female luchador is beyond me, but guess what? You can. I just hope, given Capcom’s penchant for microtransactions, we’re not stuck footing any additional fees for the “privilege” of playing dress up. That’d be annoying.

Tekken 6 will appear on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan, however Microsoft would rather you buy it on the Xbox 360 of course! This latest version of Tekken includes a “rage” system which kicks in when the energy on characters is low (I wish I had that in the real world). Read more…
