As a child of the 70s I loved the Eagles — no not the infamous rock band (although I do like the Twilight Zone plot to Hotel California) but the de-facto spaceship from Space:1999. The focus of the show was Moonbase Alpha of course, but the Eagle was the real workhorse of the show. Unlike Star Trek the poor Alphans didn’t have any transporter technology so the Eagle was vital for everything from visiting planets to moving about radioactive waste material. The industrial design of the craft was nothing short of brilliant a the mid-section could be swapped for modules that transported people or radioactive waste containers. Even better yet the head of the craft could be separated in case of emergencies.

Of course this spacecraft being so well designed wasn’t a mistake and there were quite a few toys that came out from tiny matchbox sized replicas to giant models that were more on a GI Joe scale of things. So for me it’s pleasant surprise that a new collector’s edition die-cast metal replica is due out in October this year! Details are a bit sparse but this new toy will be about 12″ inches long. But if you can’t wait for that you can buy the aptly named Rescue Eagle Replica which is currently in stock:

While looking at all of this brings back many pleasant childhood memories the one thing I’m grateful for is that Hollywood hasn’t tried to ruin this series with a reboot!
