This is the trailer for the Nintendo DS game Star Wars The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance. The game looks like quite a bit of fun — I have to admit the idea of battling the dark side of the force while being stuck on a subway ride wouldn’t be the worst way to spend a commute for this fanboy. The Key to Being a Jedi Master…

Despite the fact that Darth Vader went to the dark side I think this keychain will be useful to fanboys (and fangurls) who are in need of some light: Darth Vader Lightsaber Flashlight Keychain “StarWarsShop has become the exclusive US carrier for a bunch of new items from England’s Wesco Limited, items that fans can now get stateside! This new Darth Vader mini flashlight key chain measures a little over 3 inches long and includes a bright red LED light. Batteries included.” Found via geekalerts.com. Star Wars Galaxy Trading Cards — Yawn!
Posted by Michael Pinto on Oct 1, 2008 in Star Wars
Caution: This is a cranky fanboy rant! The preview art for the Topps Star Wars Galaxy Trading Cards looks rather uninspired to say the least. In an age of Star Wars merchandise pushing the edge with cool looking art toys and a diverse community of creative professionals who love the show the above artwork shows a lack of imagination. Don’t get me wrong the artwork is professional, but alas it’s too conventional — it looks like a Photoshop collage. If you’re selling the “art of Star Wars” you should be afraid to show some drawings and a wider range of styles: Topps Revives Star Wars Galaxy Trading Cards “In response to a steady stream of fan requests over the past decade, Topps is bringing back Star Wars Galaxy — one of its most beloved entertainment card brands. The Galaxy tradition of presenting diverse artist interpretations of the Star Wars Universe continues in fine form as Topps gears up to release all-new Series 4 this February. Not only is this series aimed at the long-time Star Wars collecting community; Topps is also looking to attract a whole new generation of younger Star Wars fans and collectors. As this segment of the fan base was still diapers when the Galaxy concept first debuted over 15 years ago (many weren’t even born then), the card marketer expects the current popularity of Star Wars will attract kid and teen audiences to the Galaxy brand as well.” …the only marketing buzzword they didn’t use above was “demographics” and “social media”! Come on Topps if you look at everything from sneakers to skateboards you know that kids and teens are will allow you to have a bit more fun with this “beloved brand”. Almost the Soundtrack to Star Wars (and Everything Else)

My image of fanboy hell is listening to a second rate orchestra poorly play every known science fiction theme song from the 30’s to the 70’s — and Geoff Love made this horrific vision come true. But what I do love about this album is that the packaging is designed not to get the publisher sued, it’s ever so close to Star Wars but makes it a point of getting “creative” with the subject matter. The first thing you’ll notice is that they seem to take the actors from the TV show Buck Rogers and put them in place of Luke and Princess Leia: My Little Stormtrooper

I could never quite stand the rainbow palette that colored the ever so cute world of My Little Pony but seeing this fan modified horsie switch to the dark side makes me ever so happy inside! Found via uniquedaily.com. Mr. and Mrs. Vader Out for a Stroll

Posted by Michael Pinto on Sep 10, 2008 in Star Wars
You lucky Lucas fanboys in the UK will have a chance to see a cool TV special on Channel 4 on September 14th which features comedian Justin Lee Collins and his quest to reunited the cast of the original Star Wars films: “Justin Lee Collins has filmed his most ambitious telly project yet — reuniting the cast of Star Wars. The Sunday Night Project presenter set himself the biggest challenge in the Empire — linking up the stars who played heroes such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewbacca. Along the way he discovered the secrets of Princess Leia’s underwear and tried to heal a bitter rift between the actors who played droids C3PO and R2D2.” They’re Afraid of Your Snake Yoda!
Posted by Michael Pinto on Sep 8, 2008 in Star Wars
It’s funny I remember being a hardcore Star Wars fanboy back in the day, but I never recall Yoda owning a snake! Maybe the snake was left over from some other toy that Kenner was pushing in 1981? I’d bet that Lucas film would never let you get away with this merchandising reinterpretation today:

Posted by Michael Pinto on Aug 29, 2008 in Star Wars
Star Wars fanboy extraordinaire Daniel Deutsch has done an amazing job of putting together a full sized Landspeeder replica: “We built this fiberglass replica landspeeder from the ground up on a custom aluminum chassis. The electric drive system is capable of a top speed around 25 mph. The speeder is the same size as the original, and can travel several miles on a single battery charge.” Found via neatorama.com. Star Wars The Force Unleashed Demo
Posted by Michael Pinto on Aug 25, 2008 in Star Wars
I have to say that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is looking quite good, as shown in the above preview from Mahalo.com. As a Star Wars fanboy what’s neat about this game is that LucasArts is also putting together a tie-in novel, action figures and a comic book to compliment the game. Even cooler yet is that in addition to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Wii — the game will also be available on the iPhone! The game is suppose to come out on September 16th. I hate to admit it — but when I first watched this video I thought it was for a real gym! As a young fanboy I hated gym (jocks aren’t always so nice to nerds) and sadly I’ve carried that dislike with me till this day. So if anyone wants to open up a real life Jedi Gym I’ll buy a membership (or at least a few day passes). Found via Zaeega. The Star Wars Bar: Serving up Richard Pryor
Posted by Michael Pinto on Aug 13, 2008 in Star Wars
The above skit was from a 1977 episode of the comedy show The Richard Pryor Show which aired on NBC. The show only ran for a few episodes, was a mega hit — but at the end of the days Richard Pryor’s comedy was a little bit to racy for broadcast television. By the way the costumes in the skit were used with permission from Lucas and I believe that this skit was done before in infamous holiday special. Special thanks to lucasfan.com for the insights into the show. Tagged Up AT-AT = Graff-At

I sense that the Force is very cute in this one! I’ve now had to view tons of photos from the Comic Con last week and I think this above shot by Bonnie Burton titled Pink Vader Princess wins my best in show award. The idea of putting together the stark contrast of Vader with a pink ballerina motif makes or an innovative fangurl fashion statement. Original T.I.E. Fighter for Sale: The Empire Sells Out
Posted by Michael Pinto on Jul 31, 2008 in Star Wars
If you’re a well-to-do Star Wars fanboy you should know that bidding on this little goodie starts at $170,000.00 on eBay: Original T.I.E. Fighter from Star Wars: A New Hope “Original T.I.E. Fighter filming miniature and original camera reports from Star Wars: A New Hope. (TCF, 1977) During the nail-biting assault on the Death Star in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, this is the actual filming miniature of the T.I.E. Fighter that bumps into Darth Vader’s fighter knocking him out of the trench, allowing Luke to destroy the Death Star. This historic piece is from the collection of Academy Award-winning Visual Effects wizard, Richard Edlund. The design concepts for the T.I.E. (Twin Ion Engine) Fighters of the Galactic Empire originally came from Colin Cantwell and Ralph McQuarrie. Joe Johnston, who was the visual effects art director and overall storyboard artist for the entire trilogy was very involved in the final finessing of the ships and Death Star designs. Only four T.I.E. Fighters were built for the first Star Wars film. Grant McCune, head of the model shop, used a fairly heavy but stable resin for the body of the ship and other resins for the tinier parts. It has a central hollow aluminum knuckle with six-way threadings for top, bottom, front, back, left and right side mounting options with 11/16 in. hollow threaded rods as wiring conduits which attached to the various self-lit neon blue pylons. The hexagonal wings are created of fine expanded metal sheeting. Much of the intricate design detail was robbed from plastic model kits, then modified and affixed. While the rebel ships appeared worn from use with dents, primer spots, oxidation and oil streaks, the Imperial Forces’ equipment was always pristine and appeared in top-notch condition. The corner of the right wing in this fighter was purposely distressed to exhibit the damage resulting from the collision with Vader’s ship; however, this model was also used in its pristine state in other sequences of the film. Included are two original camera reports, dated December 15, 1976, describing the technical details of the shooting day on which this model was filmed. The scene is labeled “417” and entitled, “Vader Wanks Out”; “Edlund” is listed as the cameraman. Also included is a color image of this model on its rigging in front of a blue screen as it was shot for the film.” San Diego Comic Con 2008: Medicom Toys

So I’m checking out the comments on my iPhone Lightsaber video and another fanboy brags “Go watch our video it’s a real battle: It’s a hundred times better than this!” And much to my shock and horror not only is their video cooler than my, but I think they even went a step beyond the notorious Star Wars Kid! |
