Tatsunoko vs. Capcom vs. Marvel: The Game I’d Like to See!

I really love the latest rage of kit-bashed character universe games that are coming out — shwn above is the latest video for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and below is a preview of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. And why are these videogames so cool? Because there’s a silly sort of honesty top them! Let’s face it: Every fanboy has always had those X-Men vs. Superman type of arguments, granted they’re silly but we all love that at heart.

In fact that sort of mismatched mindset harkens back to the golden age of B flicks which featured similar constructs like “King Kong vs. Godzilla”, and frankly while that on the surface that sort of combo seems cheesy, there’s something very satisfying about it. In fact I prefer that schlockmeister approach to the slick “reimagineering” that you see in Hollywood where they feel the need to “rescue” some favorite childhood cartoon (like Transformers) and make it “better” by just adding CGI and and explosions.

So I hope that Hollywood learns from the videogame industry and re-embraces the notion of having fun on a low budget. And as for Capcom I hope that they keep creating these kit-bashed wonders…
