Whiteout: Aliens & Antarctica? I’m Afraid Not!

Update: My apologies! I was looking at the 1:30 mark and they seemed to be UFO hunting (i.e. “We’re investigating a meteor!”) by well informed sources tell me that there were no aliens in the comic book that the film is based upon.

In my book it’s hard to go wrong with aliens and Antarctica: First you’ve got the classic H.P. Lovecraft novella At the Mountains of Madness first written in 1936 — and then you have the 1951 film classic The Thing from Another World which was directed by Howard Hawks and was based on the 1938 novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell, Jr. So just based on the subject matter this film can do well, although it’s hard to say from what little I’m seeing in this trailer.

Whiteout will be released on September 11th this year (sort of a bad day to release a horror film, no?) and is directed by Dominic Sena. The cast includes ate Beckinsale, Shawn Doyle and Nicolas Wright. Sena is interesting to me as a director because he comes from a music video background — he’s one of the co-founders of Propaganda Films which has done some amazing work with the likes of Madonna, Soundgarden, Beck, Fiona Apple and Jamiroquai.
