The Disturbing Case of the Aflak Duck Cat Wedding

Posted by Michael Pinto on Jan 19, 2010 in Japanese TV |

There’s something just freaky about this Japanese commercial for Aflac which stars Aoi Miyazaki (宮崎 あおい) sharing the screen with a creepy look animatronic duck and kitty. The odd kids song being performed is Song of the Duck Beckoning Cat and is featured in this very cute animated music video which Aflac has also put out:

Here’s another cute animated spot that I found:

So being curious about this duck cat character I found this website (which also features a blog) which is part of the Aflac campaign:

And best of all it seems like you can actually get your own duck cat, but sadly I have no idea how that would be done (aside from visiting the Aflac offices in Japan):

Of course while it’s not half as cool as owning the duck cat toy I did find these nifty wallpapers which are quite moe for an insurance company promotion:

I love how normal Aoi Miyazak seems about having a duck and cat dance at her wedding — it’s just so bizarre…
