Olivia Munn on The Daily Show: Attack of the Munn!

Posted by Gia Manry on Jun 7, 2010 in Television |

Olivia Munn is many things: a Chinese-German-Irish American who speaks Vietnamese, a host for G4’s Attack of the Show, a bikini model, a sports reporter, and a film actress. But a comedienne? …I dunno about that.

Munn has gotten her chance at audience-directed comedy as the “senior Asian correspondent” in a “try out” on The Daily Show, and I confess, I’m not impressed. TDS’s correspondents are, for all their play, pretty intelligent. And everyone knows pretty women aren’t intelligent!

…Kidding. But in all seriousness, Munn’s performance here is pretty lack-luster. The humor comes entirely from the regular TDS cast, and the few Munn-delivered jokes are mediocre at best. She doesn’t seem comfortable enough to deliver lines about “the blacks” or “always-pregnant” ladies with the gleeful abandon necessary to make the lines satirical and funny rather than just…awkward.

Admittedly, I’m biased and have never really been a fan of Munn’s work, but I still hope she won’t wind up as a regular fixture on the show. Besides, Samantha Bee’s way cooler. You think you’re a geek, huh, Olivia? Well Sam Bee played Sailor Moon in a live-action show at the Canadian National Exhibition. SO THERE!
