Xbox Live Begins Holiday Sales Before Black Friday

Spelunky

Consider this a public service announcement of impending deals. No, Xbox Live doesn’t have absolutely insane deals like Steam does on PC, but that’s all the more reason to take advantage of times when a large amount of content goes on sale. And with Black Friday coming later this week, that time is now!

The offerings aren’t quite as good as past years, but there are still some worthwhile games mixed in with all the useless avatar gear, DLC of questionable worth, and overpriced digital versions of retail games. The best value is probably Spelunky, an update of the hard-as-nails indie platformer about digging down through randomly-generated levels. Rock Band Blitz turns your Rock Band music library into an arcade game reminiscent of Harmonix’s older game FreQuency and is lots of fun. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light offers co-op puzzling, or you can play the latest version of Magic the Gathering. Some Sega Vintage Collection bundles round out the games, and of them, I’d advise you to grab the Monster World Collection.

In general, things are half off, and as a reminder, 80 Microsoft points are equivalent to $1. There are more deals coming on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so hopefully there will be some really deep discounts available. (I remember getting X-Men Arcade for 200 points one year and Beyond Good and Evil for 240 points another year.) There’s sure to be something that grabs your attention!
