Atlus Releasing Soul Hackers For NA In Spring 2013

Soul Hackers

We knew that Atlus was making an updated port of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, a spin-off of their massive Shin Megami Tensei franchise that includes the cult favorite Persona. However, there was no previous indication that the game would make its way west. Thankfully, Atlus is pulling through, announcing to their Atlus Faithful email subscribers that Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers will be released in North America come Spring 2013.

It looks like they’re treating Soul Hackers the same way they updated Persona 1 and 2 on PSP: mostly the same graphics, but with updated animation, music, and presentation. So if you’re not a fan of first-person dungeons, you may want to stay away. However, those who are tired of the usual fantasy cliches in RPGs should take this as an opportunity to try something new, with Soul Hackers‘ mix of modern-day cyberpunk and horrific demons.

By the way Atlus, it’s a little odd that you’re selling this as “the missing entry” in the Shin Megami Tensei series for North America. You guys do know we never got the first Devil Survivor, right? Or hell, Shin Megami Tensei I and II? If you’re trying to complete the series here with rereleases, you’ve got a ways to go, and that’s not even counting other random spin-offs.
