Is Far Cry 3 Set In The Assassin’s Creed Universe?

Assassin's Creed III

As much as I love achievements, they can often ruin the surprise of secrets and easter eggs. When being told to look for something, it’s much less fun when you find it than if you just happened to stumble upon it. I haven’t gotten to play Far Cry 3 yet, but there are some subtle secrets that may tie it into the conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Knights Templar in the Assassin’s Creed series.

In the Assassin’s Creed universe, Abstergo is a giant corporation that serves as a front for the Templars to advance their plans for a New World Order. Apparently, Abstergo exists in Far Cry 3, as their logo has been found on a wall. This could just be a little easter egg if not for a letter that expresses skepticism for scientists studying “Pieces of Eden” and research into “genetic memories.” Pieces of Eden are artifacts from an earlier civilization that contain mysterious powers, with Abstergo naturally searching for them to gain influence. To help track that, they shove certain people into a machine called the Animus so they can relive via genetic memories the experiences of key ancestors related to the Pieces of Eden.

It’s probably just a little reference for fans, but considering both games are made by Ubisoft, I’m willing to consider that they happen in the same universe. I smell a crossover!
