New Street Fighter Update, Additional Injustice Characters Revealed At EVO 2013

Ultra Street Fighter IV

If you were watching EVO 2013 over the weekend — which had a ton of intense, fun-t0-watch matches! — then you’ll have already heard about several fighting game announcements. But if you didn’t (and shame on you), then here’s some news: Super Street Fighter IV will be getting another update, supplanting the current version (Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition – Version 2012). This new version replaces the long name and simply goes by Ultra Street Fighter IV. Along with the usual game rebalancing and other tweaks, five new characters will be added: Hugo, Poison, Elena, Rolento, and a fifth character who is supposedly all-new, having never appeared in a Street Fighter game before.

Unlike the old SNES days, you don’t have to buy a whole new game to access the updates. You can either buy a new $40 retail version of Ultra on-disc, or you can pay $15 to download the DLC update to Super Street Fighter IV, similar to Arcade Edition. So basically, unless you have the original Street Fighter IV like me, you can still get all the new stuff. At least I’ve got a great reason to upgrade! Ultra Street Fighter IV will be out in 2014, hopefully well before that year’s EVO tournament.

In addition, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Warner Brothers’ DC fighter by the Mortal Kombat developers, is getting more DLC. Martian Manhunter will be a playable character, and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) is getting a new skin of John Stewart, a fellow Green Lantern. So John will fight the same as Hal, but at least he’s voiced and looks different.
