Dark Souls II Getting PS3 Beta This October

Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II is still polishing its ability to smash your will into the ground. The sequel to the notoriously difficult 2011 game is due out on March 14. But before then, Namco Bandai will be holding a closed beta to test the online features, which will improve upon the spotty connectivity of the first game. The beta starts on October 5, but here’s what you need to know before getting too excited.

First off, the beta will only be available to American and European players on PlayStation Network — not surprising, considering that the PS3 player base is larger due to its predecessor Demon’s Souls being PS3-only. Secondly, you’ll need to keep your eyes on the game’s official Facebook page; Namco Bandai will be posting information on how to register beginning September 5.

If you can get in, the beta will offer “one of the most treacherous areas” in the game and some exploration, which is hopefully tantalizing enough for prior players to fight to get in.
