Broken Age Act 2 Is Now Releasing In 2015

Broken Age

Double Fine may have helped pioneer game development funded by fans, earning over $3.3 million back in 2012 for Broken Age, then titled Double Fine Adventure. After making much more than they originally expected, the studio were able to increase the scope of what they had planned, even hiring voice actors like Elijah Wood. But as a result, the game was split into two halves, so they could sell the first half to finish funding the second half. Now even Act 2 has been pushed back to early 2015, but at least the game looks to have its alpha done by the end of 2014, as both characters’ stories are in alpha and only the finale remains, with one character already on the way to beta. It’s been a strange release process, but at least Broken Age is finally getting out there, even if many later crowd-funded games have already released in the interim. Read more…

Gang Beasts Now On Steam Early Access

Posted by Ben Huber on Sep 3, 2014 in Videogames

GangBeasts

One of the most ridiculously fun brawlers in recent memory is now on Steam Early Access: Gang Beasts! Recently snatched up by Double Fine in a publishing agreement, this indie game feature four Flubber-like characters beating each other up and tossing them into flames, the abyss, and a meat grinder. It’s all about the silly interactions between the punches and the way the physics react. Trust me, it’s a lot of fun. The game is currently 25% off at $14.99. Check it out! Read more…

Broken Age Part 1 Will Launch Next Week For Backers

Posted by Ben Huber on Jan 12, 2014 in Videogames

brokenage

After all this time,  we’re finally getting Broken Age… part 1. Yes, as previously announced, the game will be divided into two parts, one releasing soon — to finance the production of part two. It’s a risky bid for Double Fine as they try to make their Kickstarter baby work, but they’ve done a great job so far. Part one will arrive on January 14th for backers, and on the same day the public release date will also be announced. The funds from the sale of part one will top off part two, and completing the game. So far a star-studded cast has been revealed, feature names like Elijah Wood, Jack Black, Pendleton Ward, Wil Wheaton, and Jennifer Hale. Read more…

Elijah Wood Announced for Broken Age

Posted by Ben Huber on Dec 9, 2013 in Videogames

brokenage

Also at the VGX Awards, Tim Schafer showed up and braved the dark world of Joel McHale and demoed Broken Age. The Kickstarter game has become quite the project now, and also has a star cast of Jack Black, Wil Wheaton, and Pendleton Ward. The big announcement for the VGXs? Elijah Wood will be voicing one of the two main characters, Shay. Rather than being the “big Hollywood actor” though, he actually fits the role perfectly and definitely brings something to the part. Check out the trailer below and then watch the demo footage here (part 1 & part 2). Read more…

Double Fine Launches New Kickstarter: Massive Chalice

Posted by Ben Huber on May 31, 2013 in Videogames

Double Fine was the game company to put Kickstarters on the map as a viable way to complete a game. Broken Age, and its accompanying documentary, however, are still ongoing and the game itself has not come out yet (although it should arrive before the end of the year). So some may react with some apprehension to Double Fine’s newest Kickstarter game, Massive Chalice. It looks to be a creative take on the tactical strategy game like Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem, but your army and warriors age over time, and the next in line of their family takes over. How cool you are with the overabundance of Kickstarters might affect what you think of this game, but at least watch the fantastic promotional video made by Double Fine for the project. Read more…

How’s this for cool: Double Fine and Capy are sharing a booth at PAX East this weekend, and as a sweet bonus, they’ve released a small, Outrun-style racing game called Capy Fine Racing GP. It stars characters from both Double Fine and Capy games, and was done just for fun. The kicker? They’re releasing it on 3.5″ floppy discs! Now that’s just plain awesome. People who pick up this floppy at PAX are encouraged to share the game online and spread it between friends. So if anyone at PAX grabs this, make sure to upload it online so we can all try it. Copy that floppy! Read more…
