I know a lot of people who’d love to own, or do own, movie props. But I know even fewer that will actually make their own. That’s where movie prop-maker Tony Swatton comes in, who has been making real-life versions of movie and video game weapons for a while now. Batarangs, Minecraft swords, and blades from Game of Thrones are just some of the neat pieces he’s done, but his latest is massive: a Klingon Bat’leth. Here it is, my friends: your first look at the Klingons in Star Trek Into Darkness! And it comes in the form of a comic book cover from IDW for their prequel comic, Countdown to Darkness. There sure does seem to be a whole lot of this “darkness” stuff going around, huh. Looks like all those rumors and leaks have come true. We’ve kind of seen these helmets before in deleted scenes from the first film, but my real question is this: will they have the ridges underneath the helmet as well? Do computer parts and spaceships not have enough geek cred for you? Why not combine them? Etsy user Shankalonian makes a variety of objects, mostly bugs, out of old computer parts. But what’s coolest are his recycled versions of famous spaceships, such as the USS Enterprise, a Klingon Bird of Prey, and an X-Wing Fighter. He seems to have sold the Bird of Prey, but the Enterprise, X-Wing, and a whole lot of bugs are still up for grabs if you’re looking for a distinctive holiday gift. The Star Trek reboot was one of the biggest cinema hits of 2009, for good reason — it was a great movie. Director J.J. Abrams did a lot of things right, and he’d like to keep that pattern going for the film’s sequel, according to a new interview with SFX Magazine. Fans have been clamoring for Klingons to be featured in the second film of the rebooted series, and Abrams says he isn’t deaf to those pleas, but it’s a matter of seeing what works in the lens of this slightly different film universe. He said that adding something that’s popular with fans to the franchise for the sake of likeability isn’t necessarily the best idea, but if it can work, they’ll do it. He also told fans not to worry — the tone of the first film should be carried over to the second, in terms of humor interspersed with the drama. Good news there.
