VFX showreels have become pretty popular online, mainly because a) they give fans a look into how the special effects are done, and b) it’s great marketing for the VFX companies showing them off. This latest video is from Nordisk Film ShortCut, showing the work done for Only God Forgives, Nicolas Winding Refn’s violent and moody film. As you might expect, a lot of the effect in this video are incredibly gory, so a bit of a warning there. Also keep in mind there are several spoilers too, so perhaps you should go watch the film first. It’s weird, but in a good way. If you like cool visuals, it’ll probably grab you. Otherwise, check out the video below. Read more…

I’m so glad this film is almost here, because I don’t know how much longer I would be able to wait. It got booed at Cannes, which, aside from being incredibly immature, is a great sign, as many wonderful films got booed there. I realize this kind of film isn’t for everyone, but I hope people will at least give it a chance. Try watching Drive in the meantime – and enjoy the silence. Anyway, God Only Forgives arrives July 19th in theaters and VOD. Check out the three new posters and trailer below. Read more…

I am so very excited for Only God Forgives. Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive is one of my favorite recent movies, and his next film looks to be more moody, atmospheric, and stylish content. To promote the film, they’ve release 3 new clips that total roughly 6 minutes altogether. They’re thankfully not very spoilery, but if you want to go into the film unjaded, go no further. Trust me, they’re good. However, if you’re ready for some violence and NSFW action, click through and check out the clips. Read more…

After I saw the cult-hit Drive in theaters, I became a big fan of director Nicolas Winding Refn’s work. And now I’m very excited for his next film, Only God Forgives. There was a small teaser a few months ago, but now we’ve got a full red band trailer to get a real taste of the movie – and it looks intense. Set in Bangkok, the official synopsis is a “police lieutenant and a gangster settle their differences in a Thai-boxing match” but you know it’s way more in-depth than that. Refn’s visual style is present in full force, and the heavy focus on music seems to be back as well. We also now have a confirmed US release date: July 19th. So get ready! Trailer after the jump. Drive was one of my favorite films of 2011. The pounding 80s music, and slow, tense pacing made for a really memorable experience, and it seems to have really taken a hold as a cult hit, so I thought I’d bring this to your attention. The director, Nicolas Winding Refn, has his next film coming out this year, called Only God Forgives – and Ryan Gosling is in it again. The story follows a man living in Bangkok who gets sucked back into the criminal underworld after his brother’s death. He’s lead right to the Angel of Vengeance, a former cop who seems to rule the dark crime world. Watch the short teaser below! Read more…
