Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim has kicked off in a big way: with J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy premiering the new teaser trailer for The Force Awakens. This new teaser still doesn’t give much away, but does give you a better look at the leads and the villains they’ll be up against. Of course, there’s also a shot of two certain characters from the original trilogy too. You can probably guess who! I won’t spoil anything else, just watch the teaser below! Read more…

First Image From The Force Awakens Prequel Comic

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 15, 2015 in Star Wars

Okay, maybe we should call it an interlude? A post-Return of the Jedi comic? A pre-Awakening story? Whatever you want to call it, a new Star Wars comic is coming in September, titled Shattered Empire. The tale will take place between the sixth and seventh Star Wars films, and will be told from the perspective of C-3PO. The first image of it (presumably a cover) has been revealed by Disney and Lucasfilm and… it’s a nice drawing of the final scene of Jedi! Hope you weren’t hoping for anything more spoiler-y! This is just one of 20 books planned to come out this fall and also with The Force Awakens in December, all as part of the new canon. So there will be more on the way soon! Check out the cover below. JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy To Kick Off Star Wars Celebration

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 15, 2015 in Star Wars

The Star Wars Celebration convention isn’t too far off: April 16thto the 19th, to be exact. It’ll be at the Anaheim Convention Center, and we now know it’ll be kicked off by The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and producer & Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. The exact quote from the official site is that they’ll start “the show in a big way” and “this will be a day long remembered.” I don’t know about you, but given the speculation that a the first real trailer for The Force Awakens will premiere at Star Wars Celebration… that sounds pretty likely if both Abrams and Kennedy are there, doesn’t it? Lando Calrissian: “I Have A Feeling I’m Going To Show Up”

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 13, 2015 in Star Wars

Actor Billy Dee Williams recently jumped headfirst into an interview with Cinelinx, talking up his role in Star Wars: Rebels. In between the other questions, of course, Cinelinx took a chance to ask him about the new Star Wars trilogy: was there any chance Williams could return as Lando Calrissian? Fans were upset he hadn’t returned yet. “Yeah, people were pretty upset about it.  But I uh…I may very well…I have a feeling I’m going to show up,” the actor said, then added: “There’s nothing I can really discuss about it at this stage.” Whether that means he actually knows anything or if he’s just hoping to get a chance to come back, who knows! Still, if you’re looking for some Lando, go watch his Star Wars: Rebels episodes! Read more…

No More Episode VII Trailer Parodies… Ok, Maybe One More

Posted by Ben Huber on Dec 29, 2014 in Star Wars, Videogames

As with everything on the internet, if there’s something big, there’ll be parodies of it. This Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer parody places Nintendo characters into a “Smash Wars” video, in which “The Triforce Awakens.” It’s short, it’s sweet, and it does a good job fitting Nintendo characters into the spaces where each Star Wars character would fit. The animation isn’t too shabby either! Their substitute for the new lightsaber design is also very cute. Also: props to the musician who made the background music, as it successfully straddles the line between Nintendo and Star Wars music at the end. Read more…

Chewbacca Has Barely Aged A Day

Posted by Ben Huber on Dec 21, 2014 in Star Wars

JJ Abrams recently released a video sending his thanks out to all the fans who donated to UNICEF as part of the Force for Change event, which would give fans a chance to be in the movie. The last two videos gave brief looks at alien puppets and the X-wing design in the film, and this time around we’re seeing Chewbacca and R2-D2 show up! As you might expect, R2 looks like R2. Chewie doesn’t have a single grey hair! I know Wookies live a long time, though, so who knows when those start coming in. Make Wookie noises below the jump. Read more…

The Force Awakens Ball Droid BB-8 Isn’t CGI

Posted by Ben Huber on Dec 15, 2014 in Star Wars

Chalk this up to more evidence that JJ Abrams is indeed living up to his promise of more practical effects: the rolling ball droid, BB-8,  featured briefly in The Force Awakens teaser, isn’t CGI. In a recent interview, Mark Hamill mentioned the droid, saying, “[…] it’s not CGI, that’s a live prop — I was just amazed.” They also let him drive it around: “I was running it all around at the creature shop up in Pinewood. I’m telling you, it’s an absolute delight.” It’s really great to see how excited Hamill is about being part of Star Wars again. “And not having thought that I’d ever go back there, to go back into that world, is just – I get the chills. It’s just so much fun.” How about you: did you think BB-8 was CGI at first? Read more…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser Will Debut This Week

Posted by Ben Huber on Nov 24, 2014 in Star Wars

Get ready, Star Wars fans: SlashFilm is reporting that they have heard from very good sources that the first teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will debut this week, around Thanksgiving. They’re saying that it will indeed be shown in theaters. Right around the same time, a Reddit post on /r/StarWars claimed the same thing, also stating that it will be in front of “most if not all films in select theaters.” Interesting! John Williams recently recorded a short piece of music, presumed to be the teaser music, and we also heard reports of a 60 to 90 second teaser. Thanksgiving could be extra exciting this year!

UPDATE: and then, Regal Cinema jumped the gun and posted their theater list early, here. Looks like it’s happening! Read more…

Star Wars Episode VII’s Title Is The Force Awakens

Posted by Ben Huber on Nov 7, 2014 in Star Wars

We finally have gotten a title for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. So… what’s your opinion? It seems to follow the same rhythm and titling that previous Star Wars films featured, and it’s also the first time the Force is mentioned in a Star Wars film name. I’m going to assume this has to do with the Force slowly coming back into play after the defeat of the Sith in episode VI. A lot of folks also think that the reason we’re hearing the title now is because a teaser trailer will be out before the end of the year. I hope that’s true, even if it’s just a tiny teaser. Come on Disney, show us what you’ve got! Read more…
