You Can Help Bring Back Reading Rainbow

reading

Yes, it’s another Kickstarter, but one I never thought I’d be writing about. LeVar Burton has come to Kickstarter to being back Reading Rainbow. The plan is to make new episodes and put them online, and then also distribute them free to classrooms across the country, all in an attempt to get more kids interested in reading again. It seems pretty cool, although the pitch video is a little over-the-top. Still, I think it’s a great cause, and apparently so did everyone else: the one million dollar goal was reached in just 11 hours, and now it’s almost doubled. Yeah, that’s pretty impressive. Check out their pitch video below and then visit the Kickstarter page here. Read more…

Sherlock Season 3 Premieres On PBS This January

Posted by Bob Muir on Oct 24, 2013 in Television

Sherlock

The wait is almost over for Sherlock fans. There hasn’t been a new episode (really, more like a new 90-minute movie) since May 2012 (or January 2012 if you watched the British broadcast like me). But now we know when season three is airing, at least in the US. The first of the three new episodes will air on January 19 at 10PM on PBS’s Masterpiece anthology program. Of course, the episodes will likely be out there before that, as the BBC does have first airing rights. While the BBC hasn’t announced their premiere dates, they will be sometime before PBS airs the episodes, possibly airing even by the end of 2013. Read more…

PBS Avengers Assemble To Fight Bad TV Shows

Posted by Bob Muir on May 2, 2013 in Television

PBS Avengers

Let’s face it: as awesome as some TV has become with incredible shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and the like, there’s a lot of TV that has gotten even worse. Some channels are wastelands of vapid reality TV, pointless competitions, derivative copycats, and other incredibly stupid content. Who better to save us from this than PBS, in an Avengers-style team-up? Read more…

The Cat in the Hat Comes to PBS

Posted by Michael Pinto on Jun 7, 2010 in Animation, Pulp Fiction

This is a sneak preview of the new series The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! which is coming to PBS Kids in September. The show isn’t based on the original Dr. Seuss books but an education series of books that feature the cat explaining life, the universe and everything to kids. What I like about this show is that the animation studio did a nice job of staying true to the designs of the cat in the books.

Friday Fun: Stop the Stormerator!

Posted by Michael Pinto on Aug 7, 2009 in Videogames

This is a bit of a self plug, but my design firm has just launched a free online game for the WNET/Thirteen kids series Cyberchase which runs on PBS Kids! The name of the game is Stop the Stormerator and I’d have to say that it’s the largest scale game project I’ve worked on since the CD-ROM era. We were lucky in that we got to work with the actual voice actors from the show, and the game features their talents a great deal. The only catch is that you have to register to play the game, but that only takes a few seconds. Here are some screenshots which show off how rich the game is: Read more…
