Chew Bites into Vampires

Chew #9 - Cover

I’ve been really enjoying the comic book Chew which is illustrated by Rob Guillory. Issue #9 will be out this Wednesday and Guillory tackles the vampire theme in his very own unique style. What I love about Guillory is that he’ll have investigators picking up dirty baby diapers in one frame and then cut to a morgue scene — yet every page is punctuated with humor every other panel: Read more…

Chew #7 - Cover

Issue #7 of Chew just came out today and I really love how this book is is evolving over time. What’s great about Rob Guillory’s work is that he does a nice job of having a cartoony look with a fast paced action focused story that keeps you going. This is a detail of a cover from issue #3 of the comic book Chew which will come out in August. This illustration by Guillory is wonderful because it has a sense of humor which is sadly lacking from most comic book covers these days, I especially love the reference to the the 1958 cult film Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. Here’s the full cover (click on it to see it at full size): Read more…

Chew #1 illustrated by Rob Guillory

Shown above is a nice gory detail from a cover illustration by Rob Guillory for the comic book Chew #1 which will be released on June by Image. But what makes this cover work so well for me is the sense of humor, which you only notice when your eye moves off this scene of carnage: Read more…
