Conan O’Brien has been checking out video games more and more recently, and while he doesn’t seem to understand them all that well, his outside perspective is both hilarious and refreshing. In this video he visits E3 and takes a look at both the PS4 and Xbox One. Perhaps the most telling thing is that he immediately tunes out all of the gritty, violent shooters and action games, and finds true happiness with Mario Kart 8 (and Bayonetta). He also makes a quick stop to talk with the voice of Mario, Charles Martinet, which is simultaneously funny and depressing. Watch the whole video below. Read more…

When you think of big-budget superhero movies, which unused characters do you think are really dying for good adaption? Dr. Strange? The Flash? What about… Captain Planet? No? Please come back and watch a Captain Planet movie, Sony Pictures exclaims as the crowds run away. Yes, apparently the cartoon superhero is looking to make a comeback, and he was on top of the list of “unused superheroes.” Is there any way to make this film without embracing the cheesy, kitschy, and oh-so-90s stylings? I suppose there’s an opportunity to make a comedy out of this, but a) that’s already been done by Funny or Die, and b) do you really think they’d go that route? Read more…

At first I hadn’t been too excited for Ridley Scott’s next film, The Counselor. The one sentence blurb didn’t catch my eye (a counselor gets in deep with the drug trade and meets strange people), so I wasn’t really paying attention. That is, until the casting and scripting news arrived. Penned by No Country for Old Men writer Cormac McCarthy, and starring Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, and Penélope Cruz, it looks to be a hard-R return for Scott, and I really can’t wait to see it later this year. The Counselor arrives in theaters October 25th. Trailer after the break. Read more…

Those wonderful Mickey Mouse animated shorts are still happening – and the latest one has just arrived. This one is called “No Service” and features Mickey and Donald has they attempt to battle a “no shirt, no shoes, no service” rule with their limited collection of clothing. It’s a surprisingly self-aware cartoon, subtly mocking that neither character has ever been completely clothed. I’m both surprised and glad Disney signed off on this, because it’s a great little short. I hope we see many more like this in the future! Watch it below. Read more…

If you want a great way to show off your Oculus Rift, look no further. User Arpvidz on YouTube has been testing out a lot of software for the Oculus Rift, but none impressed him (or I) as much as Titans of Space – a virtual tour through our solar system and space. They take advantage of the 3D in the Rift excellently, and make the planets and stars suitably huge (and even then, obviously, not to scale!) which leaves Arpvidz speechless. While you can download the demo here and try it out, you’ll need an Oculus Rift to take full advantage of it. Although you could try the eye-crossing trick on the YouTube video below! Read more…

It can almost become a game to watch out for new short films online. Which one will garner enough attention to get picked up by a big movie studio? Or will they try to Kickstart it? Dr. Easy is a new sci-fi short film by Warp Films, Film4, and Shynola — it’s a prologue to what they hope will be a full adaption of the book The Red Men by Mattew De Abaitua. It’s a great look into what they could do, and I hope someone takes notice. Click through to watch the film. Read more…

I’ve been very interested in Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen game, and they’ve been hard at work on the game. Their latest update included a new trailer, set in the style of a fake luxury car commercial, but for a new space vehicle called the 300 Series. This line of ships is available to players to purchase in advance of the game, so you have a ship ready to roll once it arrives. I hope they do more faux commercials like this as the game continues to form. Check out more details about the game here, and then watch the trailer below. Read more…

Ever wanted to see a live-action version of Gatchaman, the popular Japanese anime (also known as G-Force, or Battle of the Planets here in the US). Gatchaman will finally gracing the big screen – but only in Japan for now. This live-action adaption from Japanese director Toya Sato (who previously did the Kaji live-action adaptions) looks to be taking itself pretty seriously here. While it has the typical lower-budget look of many Japanese anime adaptions, in many ways it’s kind of charming. The film will arrives in Japanese theaters August 24th. Perhaps it will make its way overseas eventually, but for now, check out the trailer below. Read more…

Jason Allemann has been making some crazy stuff – and all out of LEGO. His latest piece combines cool looks along with some clever functionality: a Steampunk Walking Ship, a boat made for land. Using a remote control and LEGO motors, it crawls its way across the ground ready to deliver or unload cargo. Jason says it’s inspired by Theo Jansen’s Strandbeest, and I can definitely see the resemblance. In the YouTube video, he also provides instructions on how to make the contraption yourself – provided you have the right parts. Check it out below! Read more…

It seems like Valve’s Team Fortress 2 characters will jump into any and every game they can. Every other week there’s a new cross-promotion or new hat in TF2, all to promote new games on Steam. I can appreciate Valve throwing their weight around for smaller games that need attention. Surgeon Simulator, on the other hand, has plenty of attention, but this is just a match made in heaven. You can now play as the Medic operating on the Heavy in a new update for the game, and struggle to fit his new heart into his chest cavity. Much crossover fanart and YouTube videos have lead to this point, and it is beautiful. Check out the trailer below. Read more…

Hold your tears, Marvel fans, Robert Downey Jr. has signed a new contract with Disney to continue playing Iron Man. The big twist? He’s only signing on for Avengers 2 and 3. Two films, that’s it. So Iron Man 4 will, for now, remain absent of RDJ. Perhaps War Machine will become the focus there? At the very least we’ll see the original Iron Man in the next two team-up films, and perhaps there are some secret cameos signed in there (but we won’t hear about those, obviously). So you’ll have Iron Man around until 2018. How does that sound? Read more…

The long and lengthy development time for the LEGO Movie at first seemed to spell trouble, but then we received a flurry of casting news and it seemed the whole project fell into place. Now, the first trailer for the film has arrived. Taking advantage of Warner Bros. large catalog of licenses, Batman, TMNT, and more all show up in the movie. Liam Neeson, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Chris Pratt, Allison Brie, Nick Offerman, and Will Arnett as freaking Batman are just some of the names that show up here. It looks like a solid family movie, and best of all? It’s made with CGI, stop-motion LEGOs, and digital manipulation. And it visually, it looks stunning. Check the trailer out below. Read more…

It seems like every other week LEGO is upping the ante and revealing a huge new model. This time around is a gorgeous rendition of the Sydney Opera House. It’s nearly a foot tall, 25 inches wide and 15 inches deep, and features 2,989 pieces. They did a good job capturing the sloped and curved shape of the whole building, and their press release even brags about having a bunch of new colored pieces and baseplates. I suppose if you’re a die-hard collector that matters! If you want it though, you’ll have to wait until September when it releases for $320. Check out more images and a creator video below! I’m so glad this film is almost here, because I don’t know how much longer I would be able to wait. It got booed at Cannes, which, aside from being incredibly immature, is a great sign, as many wonderful films got booed there. I realize this kind of film isn’t for everyone, but I hope people will at least give it a chance. Try watching Drive in the meantime – and enjoy the silence. Anyway, God Only Forgives arrives July 19th in theaters and VOD. Check out the three new posters and trailer below. Read more…

This sweet little indie game was featured in Sony’s E3 press conference last week, but I want to make sure it didn’t get passed over! Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a sequel to the indie hit Octodad, in which you play as a wonderful loving father and husband living in suburbia… who happens to be an octopus. And no one has noticed. Yet. So your task is simple: control Octodad as he maintains the illusions, and struggle to do the simplest of tasks. It’s a virtual slapstick comedy, and it’s looking fantastic. It’s arriving on PC and PS4 in late 2013 or early 2014. Check out the trailer below! Read more…

Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again.
Arnold Schwarzenegger will be returning to play the Terminator again in a new film. It’ll start filming in January, and so far there are no other details on the project. I hope you all are happy with what you’ve wrought. Actually, who knows, maybe it’ll be great, hammy fun – but I have very serious doubts about that. Man, I am just a bountiful fountain of positivity about film reboots and franchises this week. Let’s change that: I can’t freaking wait to see Arnold stumbled around his lines while explosions go off everywhere. It’s going to be hilarious! Read more…

If you’re like me, you’ve been clamoring for new details about Neill Blomkamp’s latest topical sci-fi film, Elysium. Starring Matt Damon as a man trying to escape Earth to reach the floating, luxurious sanctuary called Elysium. Of course, he’s stopped at every opportunity by Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley. It looks incredible so far, but if you’re looking for more details about the movie, this trailer certainly offers them up. Beware: it may offer up a few too many details. Watch at your own risk! The trailer is embedded below. Read more…

While this is listed as a rumor, I think we can all agree that this is more just a matter of time. Rumors are flying around that Disney is planning a major expansion for Disney World in Orlando, Florida, in the near future of 2018. This would include a Cars Land (based off the Pixar series), and of course, a Star Wars Land. While this has been rumored for just about every Disney park worldwide, I’m certain that this is a huge priority for Disney and will happen at one of them eventually. They’ve probably been talking about this for a while and sooner or later we’ll hear something legit. The real question is: what kind of rides or attractions would you want at this supposed Star Wars Land? Read more…

Calm down people, I know you’re excited. Everyone has been clamoring for a 300 sequel for ages, and despite the studio not wanting to ruin the artistic integrity of the first film, they finally caved to fans’ demands… ok. I’m sorry, this is rude of me. I’m sure there are 300 fans out there. This is the first trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire, and sadly I cannot seem to get excited or interested in it. It seems like more Spartans battling without armor against Xerxes. If that’s what people want though, I guess it’ll be here soon. Check out the trailer below. Read more…

Have you ever wondered how journalists make it in between all the huge E3 conferences? Hooking up video feeds, running cable, getting everywhere on time, and making sure people have the latest news is complicated work. Giant Bomb’s Drew Scanlon has put together a nearly hour-long video covering day one of E3 2013 from the perspective of him and Vinny Caravella, the video crew. It’s more of a documentary than a news video – we already know all the E3 news. But seeing the behind-the-scenes look at all the conferences and the effort that goes into getting video content rolling is great (it also has a brilliant ending). Grab a drink, pull up a chair, and check out this great video. Read more…

Custom shoes are apparently really big, but given that I hardly ever dip my toes in those waters, I usually don’t get a glimpse of that world until something surfaces – like these fantastic custom Nike MAGs, inspired by Iron Man. Looking closer to Iron Man’s actual boots than sneakers, these custom jobs by Mache light up at both the base and the buckle. Since each of his customs are completely unique, sadly there’s no way to get these. If you’re willing to drop some serious cash, though, you could try ordering your own. Check out more images below! A lot of cool images have shown up recently showing the filming of the next Captain America film, subtitled Winter Soldier. The Winter Soldier himself will be a new antagonist in the movie universe, but comic fans will know him well already. If you don’t, and want to keep some surprises in store for yourself, don’t Google him. But below you can get some ideas of the new modern tone of Captain America, as well as a glimpse at Cap’s new suit. They’ve done a great job with the Winter Soldier’s suit, and Black Widow and Nick Fury showing up is a good sign as well. Consider me slightly more interested in this film! Read more…

Every once in a while I simply have to recommend a new indie game. Especially since the market is flourishing so much right now. Gunpoint is a new release from Suspicious Developments, and it’s a great take on the stealth genre. Mainly because you can rewire all the electronics in the game to do your bidding. Want to make a light turn off as the elevator arrives? Or even have a guard’s gun malfunction and trigger a trap door? There’s tons of room for creativity and it’s all wrapped up in wonderful pixel art and a stylish soundtrack. And it also has a level editor. You can also tackle guards to the ground and punch them – and at no point are you required to stop. Check out the trailer below and then pick it up on Steam! Read more…

I know you guys are excited for this game because my Twitter and Facebook feeds have been lighting up as the game grows closer to release. Well wait no longer, because it’s out now! Nintendo has also uploaded a launch unboxing video to promote the game’s special edition 3DS XL. And if you’re completely lost on the appeal of Animal Crossing, fear not! Giant Bomb recently did a Quick Look of the game, featuring the crew running through each others’ houses. It’s great fun and one of the most laid-back games out there. Check it out below. Read more…
