Sesame Street Does Star Wars

Yes, after all these years, Sesame Street is doing a Star Wars parody. Perhaps not the most timely, but maybe with Episode VII on the horizon it actually works out. This parody teaches kids all about self control, but most of the jokes are aimed directly at parents. Yes, Chewbacca is a cookie named Chewy. Obviously! The dessert puns come fast and furious, my favorite being Only One Canoli. Plus, there’s a much happier end for the father-son pair of Vader and Luke, given that this is a slightly more kid-friendly setting. Check out the full video below. Read more…

What Are They Saying In True Detective?

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 9, 2014 in Television

True Detective finishes tonight, and I think it’s a safe bet to say that it’ll be great. One thing HBO’s show does, though, is feature the wonderful low, gravelly-voiced detective archetype — yes, both of the main characters. At first it might be difficult to decipher their southern mutterings, but soon you fit right into the groove. But it looks like the crew at The Soup along with Joel McHale haven’t exactly figured it out yet in their latest parody video, in which they lampoon Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey’s performances. Not all the jokes hit, but the reactions are pretty entertaining. Read more…

Seasame Street Does The Lord Of The Rings (Crumbs)

The Lord of the Crumbs

I said my peace about how awesome Cookie Monster skits are, even as an adult, a few weeks ago with this Catching Fire parody. Now that we’re on the same page, here’s Cookie Monster as “Gobble” in The Lord of the Crumbs. While I might wonder why they don’t feel like parodying The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, it doesn’t really matter. Watch as Cookie Monster argues with himself, tries to get past a wizard, and comments on the special effects. Part of me is looking forward to having kids down the road just to watch these sort of things with them. Read more…

Cookie Monster Parodies Catching Fire as Cookieness Evereat

Posted by Bob Muir on Nov 19, 2013 in Cinema

Cookie Monster Hunger Games

While most adults might gravitate more towards The Muppets instead of Sesame Street, the kid’s show still has a lot to offer adults looking for cute skits and parodies, especially those with Cookie Monster. While I could care less about Elmo, Grover, and the others, Cookie Monster has never really got old, even surviving the program’s need to point out that cookies are a “sometimes food.” (Check out this skit with game developer Tim Schafer as proof!) His latest skit has him playing the role of Cookieness Evereat in a parody of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. While the brutal nature of the games has been completely toned down to “The Hungry Games,” there’s a lot to like here. I think it’s particularly damning that Peeta can be replaced with a pita named Pita and nothing is lost from his character. Read more…

Rolling in the Pokeballs

Posted by Ben Huber on Aug 4, 2012 in Videogames

Who knew that the lyrics from Pokemon’s opening theme, Gotta Catch ‘Em All, lined up so well with Adele’s Rolling in the Deep? Ian Bonds did (aka Insane Ian) and with some help from his girlfriend’s vocal talents, he created this very clever and well-done parody song. Is it just me or have fan-made parody songs been really well done this past year?
