Resident Evil Remake To Be Ported To Current-Gen Systems

Posted by Bob Muir on Aug 7, 2014 in Videogames

Resident Evil Remake

There’s really no reason to ever play the original PlayStation version of the first Resident Evil game, since the 2002 GameCube remake completely blew the previous versions out of the water. Next to gorgeous pre-rendered backgrounds, the PS1 version just looks laughable. But there’s the rub: it’s hard to update the game in high-definition when all your backgrounds were made for 4:3 480i screens. Capcom has announced an HD remake, with better models and upressed backgrounds.

Yes, you read that right. There’s going to be crossover DLC between Left 4 Dead 2 and Resident Evil 6. First up, Capcom will be adding in the four main characters from L4D2, Coach, Rochelle, Ellis, and Nick, as playable characters in an exclusive new mode called The Mercenaries No Mercy. Each character will have a specific loadout to use, and the Witch and Tank will also make an appearance. This will arrive April 5th. On the L4D2 side, three new special infected will be added via the Steam Workshop: Lepotitsa, Napad, and Ogroman. This has a more nebulous release date of “Spring.” Valve Time activate! Read more…

Shinji Mikami to Save Survival Horror?

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Apr 25, 2012 in Horror, Videogames

Shinji Mikami

Here’s an exciting bit of breaking news for Resident Evil fans. Series creator, and grandfather of the survival horror genre, Shinji Mikami announced a new horror game this morning. Codenamed “Zwei,” the game is to be developed by Mikami’s new studio, Tango Gameworks. Those of you who may recall, his last entry in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 4, has been the most successful and critically acclaimed to date. If you’re wondering why he’s no longer with the company, Mikami had been transferred to Capcom’s Clover studio prior to its dissolution following the release of the not-so-successful cult-favorite God Hand. He then worked briefly for Platinum Games, the studio responsible for Bayonetta and Vanquish, before leaving to create Tango Gameworks. There’s no other details to note, other than the game is in the early stages of development and that his studio was acquired by Zenimax, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks back in 2010. For the sake of the genre, let’s hope his latest foray into the world of survival horror is as successful as his last.

Resident Evil 6 Features Zombie Butterflies?

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Apr 16, 2012 in Horror, Videogames

Resident Evil 6 C-Virus Cocoon

Earlier this evening, some more details regarding Resident Evil 6 surfaced. It’s already been revealed that both Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield will be playable for the first time in the same game, and that the game will take roughly 30 hours to complete, featuring three 10-hour-long chapters. However, this latest bit of news might seem a bit more exciting for fans of the earlier entries in the series — Zombies are back. While the previous two entries dealt with an infectious parasite, Resident Evil 6 introduces the C-Virus. This latest strain pits our heroes against a new breed of zombies, capable of running, jumping and using basic weapons.

Resident Evil 4 HD? It Might Just Happen

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Mar 23, 2011 in Horror, Videogames

Resident Evil 4

Like many of you, I found Resident Evil 5 to be a bit underwhelming — especially after having played through 4 — so you can imagine my frustration when they decided to release additional DLC for that latest title in lieu of simply moving on to a bigger and better sequel. That said, I had no objections when Capcom recently announced their latest project, Resident Evil Revival Selection — an HD remake of Resident Evil 4, and it’s predacessor of sorts, Resident Evil: Code Veronica for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

It Just Won’t Stay Dead; Resident Evil Afterlife Gets a Trailer

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Jun 2, 2010 in Cinema, Videogames

Here’s the first full trailer for the latest addition to the Resident Evil film franchise, Resident Evil: Afterlife.  I’m sure some of you might be cringing after reading that headline, after all, Resident Evil: Extinction — the last entry in the series — failed on so many levels. After its predecessor ended with so much promise — at least, as much promise as a Hollywood video game adaption could — Extinction  simply delivered more of the same, and as a result, many people, myself included, weren’t exactly looking forward to a fourth. Resident Evil: Now Extra Improved with Muppet Flavor!

Posted by John Martone on May 29, 2009 in Horror

Everyone knows that the two scariest things in the world are puppets and zombies. Now, imagine if these two horrifying objects were combined, ala Freddy versus Jason. Horror masterpiece, right? Wrong! However, what you do have is a novel one minute and forty-eight seconds of your life you can’t have back. You’ll still click it though, come on! It has zombies and puppets in it… Read more…
