A Strange Kickstarter for Frog Fractions 2

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 12, 2014 in Videogames

frog

Frog Fractions was one of my favorite experiences from last year. It appeared to be simple on the surface, but after a little prodding, revealed a grandiose labyrinth of hidden gameplay and bizarre content that made you yell at the screen is disbelief. It’s really hard to describe, so if you haven’t played it, go do so now, it’s free. Anyway, this brings us to a Kickstarter for Frog Fractions 2. The trick is, you’re paying for a surprise. The release date for the game will not be announced. It’ll just come out at some point, and people will have to find it. The developer says, “It will not be called ‘Frog Fractions 2.’ It will probably be called something like ‘Lost Kingdom: Reckoning,’ by Fork Bomb LLC or ‘Turbo Finance 2015’ by Vespenta Holdings. Does that Russian flight sim on Desura look suspicious to you? Better play it just to make sure!” Amazing. Watch the equally amazing announcement video below and then pledge here. Read more…

Check Out This Working LEGO Computer Keyboard

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 12, 2014 in Hobbies and Collections

legokeyboard

People will continue to make amazing things with LEGO, even until the end of time. I’m certain of it. AFOL JK Brickworks has put together a working LEGO computer keyboard using the pad from an older keyboard, then sandwiching it in between various bricks and building a rack for the keys to rest upon. It looks simple from the outside, but when you see the inside and framework, it becomes apparent how much more went into it. Watch the full video below, where he pulls it apart and shows you the innards and how the whole contraption works! Read more…

New LEGO Jawa Sandcrawler Is Insane!

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 11, 2014 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

lego1

Wow, talk about impressive: LEGO just announced this massive Jawa Sandcrawler, complete with an abundance of minifigures, droids, hidden features, and panels. The set is 9 inches high, 18 inches long, and 6 inches wide, packs over 3200 pieces, and will retail for $300. Yikes! Still, it looks to be a pretty impressive set, and I am kind of surprised we’re even seeing a Sandcrawler model this big! It’d definitely be quite the display piece, and it looks like there’s plenty for kids (or big kids) to enjoy with a droid winch, several secret compartments, a cockpit, and a mini-vehicle. Check out more images below along with LEGO’s designer video. Read more…

New Game of Thrones Season 4 Trailer Ramps Up The Excitement

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 11, 2014 in Television

got4

Now that True Detective is finished, it’s time to start getting excited for the next big show: Game of Thrones, season four! After the tragedy and incredible breakdowns by fans last season, I can’t wait to see the reactions people have this time around. Granted, I’m sitting up on my “I read the books” platform, but it’s still incredibly enjoyable to watch it all play out. This latest trailer teases a bunch of big storylines, namely Dany’s ever-growing dragons and the new threats from Dorne. Avoid the internet if you don’t want anything spoiled, because this is going to be an intense season. Read more…

Making Jurassic Park A Little… Furrier

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 10, 2014 in Cinema, Fandom

jp

I know a few people who found Jurassic Park too scary when they were kids. My girlfriend was one of them! I, on the other hand, loved seeing dinosaurs on the big screen. Perhaps this little edit from We Are Camera Studio, a little studio in Thailand, will help her enjoy it a bit more. Rather than having velociraptors scampering through the kitchen scene, wouldn’t kittens be a bit more fun? Or at least, less terrifying! I was going to make a joke about dinosaurs actually having feathers, but that didn’t really work. I’m pretty sure fur wasn’t a typical dinosaur outfit. Check out the adorable video below! Read more…

Carrie Fisher Can’t Keep Quiet About Star Wars Episode VII

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 10, 2014 in Star Wars

carrie

I think if Star Wars fans didn’t love Carrie Fisher unconditionally before this, they will now. She keeps leaking details about the project before it can be officially announced, making her one of the premiere sources for Star Wars: Episode VII news! Most recently, she once again confirmed her presence in the upcoming film, when she disclosed to Jim Jefferies (whom she is starring with in the FXX show Legit), that she’d be filming for six months in London for Star Wars. Jefferies revealed this on the Opie & Anthony Show, so thanks Jefferies! We’re basically 100% sure Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Fisher will be back for Episode VII, but we’re just waiting on official confirmation from Disney. Come on, guys, we all know! Just say it! Happy in Tunisia

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 9, 2014 in Fandom, Star Wars

swt

Tunisia! It’s a pretty cool place, but most fans know it as Tatooine, from Star Wars. A group of dedicated fans living in Tunisia want you to know more about the place, so they’ve put together a video parodying Pharrell William’s incredibly popular song Happy, featuring Star Wars cosplayers dancing in the sandy dunes and through the remaining sets. It’s pretty dorky, but you can tell everyone involved was having a blast, so their enthusiasm rubs off on you pretty quickly. Check out the video below and visit Star Wars Tunisia’s Facebook page here. Read more…

What Are They Saying In True Detective?

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 9, 2014 in Television

td

True Detective finishes tonight, and I think it’s a safe bet to say that it’ll be great. One thing HBO’s show does, though, is feature the wonderful low, gravelly-voiced detective archetype — yes, both of the main characters. At first it might be difficult to decipher their southern mutterings, but soon you fit right into the groove. But it looks like the crew at The Soup along with Joel McHale haven’t exactly figured it out yet in their latest parody video, in which they lampoon Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey’s performances. Not all the jokes hit, but the reactions are pretty entertaining. Read more…

The Last of Us Live-Action Film On The Way

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 8, 2014 in Cinema, Videogames

last2

Interesting: Sony announced yesterday The Last of Us will be adapted as a live-action film. The big thing for many fans will be that Neil Druckmann, the creative director of the original game, is attached to write the script. Screen Gems will be distributing the film, and Sam Raimi’s production company, Ghost House Pictures, will be producing it. I saw some people interpreting this as Sam Raimi possibly directing it, but I’m not sure about that. Just because he’s producing it doesn’t mean he’ll direct too. We’ll have to wait and see. My guess is that we’ll instead see a newer director get this project as a chance to prove themselves to the studios. Read more…

Muppets Most Wanted Posters Parody Skyfall And More!

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 8, 2014 in Cinema

muppets

Here’s some cute posters by the Muppets crew to promote their upcoming film Muppets Most Wanted. I’m hoping this new Muppets film is as good as the last one with Amy Adams and Jason Segel — but I’m not sold on Ricky Gervais. The concept of an “evil Kermit” could be funny though! These posters feature Kermit, Miss Piggy, and “evil Kermit” Constantine in a variety of spy movie parodies, such as Skyfall, Face/Off, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. It’s not long until it comes out — March 21st is when it’ll open in theaters. They also made an especially timely ad spotlighting John Travolta’s “Adele Dazeem” mispronunciation at the Academy Awards. Whoops! Read more…

Watch Sylvian Chomet’s (Triplets of Belleville) Simpsons Couch Gag

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 7, 2014 in Animation, Television

simpsons

The Simpsons have been getting lot of big-names involved in their couch gags, recently featuring such names as Guillermo Del Toro and more. The latest, airing this Sunday (March 9th), is done by Sylvian Chomet, the director of the fantastic animated films the Triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist. It features his distinctive style applied to all the characters, but the jokes are pretty standard fare. That said, it’s some great animation and contrasts pretty heavily with the cheaper stuff used by the Simpsons now. Check it out! Read more…

Shaq Fu Returns

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 7, 2014 in Videogames

Shaq-Fu

Here’s something I never thought I’d be writing about: a sequel to Shaq Fu. The infamous SNES/Genesis game is returning, thanks to the man himself, Shaquille O’Neal. They’re crowdfunding it on IndieGoGo, and in addition to soliciting money from fans, Shaq is pouring much of his own money into it too. It looks suitably crazy in the promotional video, but given that it’s all CGI, I’m not sure if you can use it to predict how the final game will look (and there’s only 2 screenshots). At least the concept art is neat! Still, I’m a little hesitant about it, despite its hilarious nature, mainly because we don’t know any of the devs behind it. The best part is definitely Shaq in a mocap outfit, though. Check out the videos below and the IndieGoGo page here. Read more…

Steam Family Sharing Now Available to All Users

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 3, 2014 in Videogames

steam

Back in September, Valve had start up the Family Sharing beta, which allowed users to share their games with other Steam accounts that they had designated as “family.” Obviously, you can share with anyone you trust, but if they’re using a game from your library, you’ll have to kick them off if you want to play a game. It’s essentially a safer way to share your account and games with friends. We all have that one friend who would love a certain game, but won’t take the plunge and buy it — now you can let them try it easily. Check out the Family Sharing page here. Read more…

Ban On Doctor Who LEGO CUUSOO Submissions Lifted

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 3, 2014 in Dr. Who, Hobbies and Collections

legowho

LEGO CUUSOO is a great service. Just recently we got an amazing Ghostbusters Ecto-1 model from it! But some licenses or properties are immediately discarded due to existing licensing deals or other limits on the IP people want LEGO models of. Doctor Who was an example of this: submit all you want, but it wasn’t happening. We don’t know what was preventing it, but now we have good news: it’s gone! Fans can now submit Doctor Who LEGO set ideas to their hearts content and vote them up. Remember, you’ve got to get 10,000 votes on something before it’ll even be considered. Good luck! Read more…

Rumor Party: New Matrix Trilogy In The Works?

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 2, 2014 in Cinema

matrix

The Latino Review puts out lots of “scoops” all the time, and mostly they’re reliable — but they’ve still got a bit of a reputation for sharing “crazy” news. That said, this one sounds believable to me… if only because I know movie studios aren’t able to make original films anymore and rely on remaking or creating sequels to existing properties. That brings up to this story: Latino Review is reporting that the Wachowskis have been working on story treatments for a new Matrix trilogy. The rumor says it’s possible it could be about the birth of the Matrix, which could be ripe for exploration but wouldn’t have a particularly happy ending. I’m not sure if I want more Matrix, and I was under the assumption that the Wachowskis were going to be pushing for Jupiter Rising to be a trilogy… but who knows what could end up happening. Twitch Plays… and Finishes… Pokemon

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 2, 2014 in Fandom, Videogames

tpp

Twitch Plays Pokemon has been one of the biggest internet and IRL phenomenon going on right now. If you haven’t been following, thousands upon thousands of internet denizens have been inputting commands via chat into a computer streaming a copy of Pokemon Red. That means that all the commands go through, resulting in mistaken button presses, the player running into walls or backtracking, and various other setbacks. Every user had to contribute to make it to the end of the game. And after much consternation, difficulty, perseverance, and the creation of several memes and faux religious factions, Twitch Plays Pokemon has beat Red version. Now they’re going to tackle Gold or Silver. How will that go?! Read more…

The Flash Revealed

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 1, 2014 in Comic Books, Television

Flash

He looks like the Flash, alright.

Were we expecting anything different? It’s really hard to get those full-head masks to look right, though. This one looks okay. I can appreciate the attempt to keep the lightning bolts on the side. Colleen Atwood, who designed the Arrow’s costume, designed this one as well. The pilot for the Flash TV series will begin filming very soon, aiming at release in the 2014-2015 season on the CW. It also aims to be part of a larger DC universe the resides on TV — whether these TV characters will ever cross into the feature film realm is unknown yet. It could be an easy way to test the waters, though! Read more…

Godzilla is Getting Around

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 1, 2014 in Cinema

godzilla

Gareth Edwards, the director of the upcoming Godzilla film, took a little time to walk fans through the most recent trailer, explaining all the little details contained within it. In case you missed any hidden shots, he explains their reasoning behind shots and also some of their experiences during filming. I liked that he mentioned how they created the classic Godzilla roar at the end. Perhaps it’s worth watching just to get a slower look at some shots where Godzilla creeps in. Also included below the jump, the recent Godzilla Snickers commercial. Why? I don’t know, seeing Godzilla water skiing was pretty funny to me. Read more…

Warner Bros. Nabs Rights for Minecraft Movie

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 28, 2014 in Cinema, Videogames

minecraft-logo

It was bound to happen sooner or later — the Minecraft movie rights have been picked up by Warner Bros. They’ve only attached one name at the moment: Roy Lee, the producer of The LEGO Movie. I would imagine that The LEGO Movie’s success had much to do with this announcement as well. They have a lot of crossover appeal, and can definitely hit the same demographic. I’d love if the same team behind The LEGO Movie did Minecraft, but I’m not sure they’d take it up. The news also mentions that the film will be live-action… which is an odd choice, but we’ll see how it turns out! I have high hopes for this. Read more…

Sochi 2014 Speed Skating… With Mario Kart Items

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 28, 2014 in Fandom

skate

I think we can all say that the Sochi Olympics were pretty intense this year, even without all the political drama the surrounded the affair. However, despite all these impressive acts of athleticism on display, I’d bet that you’d agree that adding Mario Kart items into the mix would’ve made them even more exciting. That’s what YouTube user Timtimfed (Michael Shanks) imagined, and he made it happen. His video of the “Speed Skating Double Dash Final” features exactly the items you’d expect to see. And of course, what would it be without the dry, calm commentary by the announcers? Check it out below. Read more…

Are the Captain America: The Winter Soldier TV Spots Spoiling Too Much?

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 24, 2014 in Cinema, Comic Books

cap2

Avoid this post if you don’t want any spoilers about Captain America: The Winter Soldier! It’s possible that recent TV spots are ruining a bit plot point for the film… or perhaps it’s just some old-fashioned misdirection. Here it comes: in the TV spot, it’s briefly shown that a bomb is detonated under Nick Fury’s car, and he’s blown sky-high. Then is the line “Nick Fury’s last words were not to trust anyone.” They’re definitely implying that he’s offed, but I can’t see Marvel being willing to kill off Nick Fury. Given what we all know about comic books — he’s probably not dead. If you want to look at it from a logical perspective: Samuel L. Jackson is still signed on for several more Marvel films, so no, he’s not going anywhere. Read more…

NBC Announces Heroes Reborn

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 24, 2014 in Television

heroes

Yup, the canceled TV show Heroes is coming back to NBC as a new short 13 episode series called Heroes Reborn. I imagine with the explosion of super hero-themed movies and TV shows, they want back in on the action. They didn’t release anything regarding the plot or other details. They did mention that a web series will start prior to the debut, to introduce new characters. They also mentioned that previous characters could return as well, but didn’t specify beyond that. I wonder if this’ll actually do well, or flop completely. The series will start in 2015. Read more…

LEGO Movie Sequel Already Scheduled for 2017

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 23, 2014 in Cinema

lego

Given the runaway success of the LEGO Movie, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised: there’s going to be a sequel. Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan have already been signed on to script it. And, of course, Warner Bros. has scheduled it already for 2017, on May 26th. This is a much bigger billing than the first film’s February opening, so it seems they’ll be getting even more support the second time around. As of yet, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors of the first film, have not been confirmed to return. I wouldn’t want to see anyone else in the director’s chair, though. They’ve done great work so far! Read more…

Uh… Space Jam 2 Possibly On The Way?

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 23, 2014 in Cinema

SpaceJam

This is a weird article to be writing. Deadline is reporting that Willie and Charlie Ebersol have signed on for a sequel to the film Space Jam, to write and produce, respectively. Warner Bros. is on board too, and they’ve reportedly roped LeBron James into the project as well. What kind of bizarro land have I landed in?! Hold your horses though: LeBron claims that things aren’t happening yet, but that could be the typical PR speak to cover an announcement that got out too early. This is a really strange thing to see happen, but I guess with the recent ironic love by modern kids and nostalgia from grown-ups, Warner thinks they have a potential hit there. I don’t know if it’ll work. Read more…
