First ‘Pixels’ Trailer Pretty Much Sums Up The Movie

Posted by Bob Muir on Mar 18, 2015 in Cinema, Videogames

Pixels

It’s not like expectations were high for Pixels, a feature-length adaptation of a neat short. What sounded like a shaky concept for a film was soon torpedoed when it was announced to be an Adam Sandler vehicle. Even the presence of Peter Dinklage couldn’t boost interest that much. And so this trailer is pretty much a confirmation of that line of thinking. It gives you the plot justification you’re curious about and shows a bunch of gags, some of which are admittedly amusing, but which you could imagine would get very tiresome when stretched out over 90 minutes. Basically, the whole joke of this trailer boils down to “Man, isn’t it crazy that videogames, of all things, are killing us?” There, let’s all move on. Read more…

Pac-Man Coming To Super Smash Bros. For Wii U And 3DS

Posted by Bob Muir on Jun 11, 2014 in Videogames

Pac-Man

Bandai Namco is co-developing Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U, so many were wondering whether or not any Namco characters would appear in the game. With Mario, Sonic, and Mega Man all in the game, it only made sense for Pac-Man to enter the fray, and luckily he was just confirmed. While he mostly retains his modern 3D look, it seems that for some attacks he’ll transform back into a 2D form to munch things up. He also can attack with ghosts, pellets, Galaga, Dig Dug, and other old school summons. The video also confirms the return of Mr. Game & Watch, as it is humorously pointed out that both characters originated in 1980, while Mario and Donkey Kong debuted in 1981’s Donkey Kong. Read more…

Pac-Man Gets an iOS Platformer

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Apr 7, 2011 in Videogames

Pac'N-Jump

With its simplistic controls and straight-forward gameplay, the original Pac-Man has cemented itself in many of our hearts. We’ve seen several attempts at Pac-Man platformers in the past, most recently with the Pac-Man World series, and so far none have really captured the charm of the arcade classic. Namco is looking to give it one more try with their latest Pac-Man title, Pac’N-Jump for the iOS.  Read more…

Pac-Man Meets Sack Boy

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Jan 5, 2011 in Videogames

I have to admit that I wasn’t very impressed with Little Big Planet’s first outting. While the game gave us plenty of tools to build with, the platforming aspects of the game seemed a bit tiresome. After merely a week and half — I’m told it took some people less time than that — I found myself placing back on my shelf never to be played again. A shame really, considering all the hard work spent on creating countless user-generated content. Thankfully, the upcoming sequel, Little Big Planet 2, features a bit more than just your typical platforming.

Namco Bandai’s Pac-Mac DX is Like a Rave You Won’t Want to Miss

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Nov 16, 2010 in Videogames

There has to have been countless iterations of this game over the years but it’s looking more and more like Pac-Man Championship Edition DX may be the best to date. Scheduled for release via Playstation Network and Xbox Live!, this sequel features multiple game modes, and gameplay tweaks such as slow motion, bombs and a new type of ghost. Much like the original Pac-Man Championship Edition released back in 2007, the visuals are stunning, clean, and colorful. If you haven’t seen for yourself, check out the video above. Pac-Man Championship Edition DX is scheduled to release sometime this week.  Read more…

Not Ready For Halloween? This Costume Can Pac a Punch

Pac-Man Costume

With Halloween creeping up on us, many of you probably have your costumes already picked out. Some of us, on the other hand, like to procrastinate till the last minute. Well, here’s your chance to be proactive and hilarious at the same time without having to rely on your wit. That’s right, not only does this awesome Pac-Man costume look fantastic, but I’m pretty sure everyone in your office will find it hilarious to some degree. Of course, if you’d rather go as something lame like a ghost, you may as well make it one of these. It’s way better than a bed sheet — just don’t get mad if someone tries to eat you.

You Just Had to Chase That Yellow Ball

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Oct 7, 2010 in Videogames

Pac-Man Ghost Shirt

Ever get that sinking feeling like you’re about to be devoured by a giant yellow ball but weren’t quite sure how to express it to others? Well, this shirt is the solution to that problem. ThinkGeek recently introduced this killer retro Pac-Man glow-in-the-dark ghost t-shirt. Obviously the ghost in question is about to become a snack, but that doesn’t make it any less cool. What’s more is that they’re giving the shirt away for free! What’s the catch you ask? ell, you have to add it to your cart, and spend $31 on other goods before they’ll toss it in free of charge. I guess that doesn’t really make it free, but $31 isn’t too much to ask, especially considering how many awesome products they carry. Besides, if you don’t want to drop the cash on other stuff, you can buy the shirt itself starting at $15.99, with XL and XXL costing a mere dollar or two extra. If you’re shooting for a free one though, I highly recommend a box of Stay Puft caffeinated gourmet marshmallows.

Pac-Man 30th Anniversary Zippos from Banpresto

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man Banpresto will be releasing this beautiful Zippo lighter in November of this year. I love the added touch of having the high score at the top and having the bitmap typography at the bottom — it’s the little bits and bites that count. Read more…
