ThreeA Portal 2 Figures of Atlas and P-Body on the Way

Posted by Ben Huber on May 18, 2013 in Hobbies and Collections, Videogames

portal2_1

ThreeA has some skilled people working there. I love the character and design put into their figures and models, but their recent penchant for picking up licenses is really neat too. Next up? Atlas and P-Body from Portal 2! These two will be available for an unknown amount sometime this month on the Bambaland store. As soon as the pre-orders go up you’ll probably want to rush in and claim a pair for yourself, because these typically go very fast. Check out some more images below of these excellent 1:6th scale figures. Read more…

Nintendo Forms Partnership With SEGA for 3 Sonic Games

Posted by Ben Huber on May 18, 2013 in Videogames

1368802166-sonic-lost-world

SEGA has been making a transition to a much more PC-oriented focus recently, but Sonic is still their big name brand. But what about on consoles? Nintendo has just snatched up a publishing and distribution deal with SEGA for the next 3 Sonic the Hedgehog games. The newly announced Sonic Lost World as well as Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be published by the Big N in Europe and Australia. While SEGA US will still publish the games here, the games themselves will be exclusive to Nintendo systems, aka the Wii U. It seems Nintendo’s new strategy of forming partnerships (like with Platinum Games) is solid, but will it pay off? Read more…

Brad Bird Talks About Maybe Doing Incredibles 2, Star Wars Episode VII

Posted by Ben Huber on May 17, 2013 in Animation, Cinema

Brad Bird

Brad Bird recently did an interview and talked about a ton of projects he either passed up or still wants to do. Being asked about the always-wanted Incredibles sequel, Bird said that he “would probably wanna do that” and that he has ideas floating around in his head for the next film if the opportunity ever arises. That gives me some hope! He also spoke about Star Wars Episode VII, and mentioned that Kathleen Kennedy offered him the director’s chair for the movie, but he had to pass it up to finish Tomorrowland. Too bad, I think it would’ve been a good fit, but with a new Star Wars film every year starting in 2015, he has a much higher chance of doing one sooner or later! Read more…

New Pacific Rim Trailer – Now With More Robots

Posted by Ben Huber on May 17, 2013 in Cinema

pacific_rim1

I bet you thought they couldn’t fit more robots in, right? Well, they can, as well as some more Kaiju to beat up as well. Some of the set pieces in this film look really neat, and I’m loving the designs for the various Kaiju. I guess about all else this shows me that a giant robot movie can be done well (go away, Michael Bay), and I kind of want to see a live-action Neon Genesis Evangelion or Big O movie now. Perhaps one day! Until then, this is a wonderful replacement. Check out the trailer below. Read more…

Cube World Update: Looking Good!

Posted by Ben Huber on May 13, 2013 in Videogames

cubeworld

A while ago I posted a short video of Cube World, a game being made by indie game designer Wollay. Combining the cute blocky graphics of Minecraft along with the exploration and levelling of an RPG, it looks to be doing a good deal more than the typical Minecraft imitator. Instead he looks to be doing his own thing, and this new video shows off the classes, world, skill trees, and crafting. I love the bright and vivid colors in the world too – it makes it really stand out. Hopefully a public beta test will begin soon, because I’m really interested in getting my hands on it. Read more…

First Pic of Paul Giamatti as the Rhino in Amazing Spider-Man 2

Posted by Ben Huber on May 13, 2013 in Cinema, Comic Books

sm2

Well there you go. We were all wondering a bit how Paul Giamatti would fit into The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as the Rhino, and how much they would play up the “rhino” aspect of his character. At the very least I was pretty sure he wouldn’t have a horn coming out of his forehead. He does have a tattoo there, though! This time the Rhino will just be a simple Russian merc, Aleksei Sytsevich. Maybe he’ll still have super-strength? Or perhaps he will get some sort of crazy suit later in the movie. On the other end of things, if you haven’t seen Jaime Foxx as Electro yet, you might wanna take a peek below to see what you’re missing. I think he may have blue himself. Read more…

Maker vs Marker Animation

Posted by Ben Huber on May 12, 2013 in Fandom

makervsmarker

What happens when your drawings fight back? You amp up the stakes! Jonny Lawrence has created a great little video in which “Marker,” his drawing, battles against the “Maker,” a human hand. Obviously it takes a lot of inspiration from Street Fighter, but people have also been enjoying the Master Hand comparisons, from Super Smash Bros. It’s a pretty impressive animation, so check it out below and be sure to look at his other work on his YouTube page. Read more…

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Picked up on ABC

Posted by Ben Huber on May 12, 2013 in Television

shield

Are you surprised? The Disney-owned channel ABC will be picking up Joss Whedon’s TV side-story featuring Agent Coulson and his team, called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Later this evening the first look at the show will air at 8pm, before the season finale of Once Upon a Time. I’m not sure if it will be substantial peek or just a 5-second promo, but hopefully we’ll get a good look at the pilot footage. What I wonder most about is whether Agent Coulson’s big-screen popularity in Avengers will translate to the small-screen as well. Watch the preview tonight if you want to find out! Read more…

First Teaser for Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity

Posted by Ben Huber on May 11, 2013 in Cinema

gravity

Children of Men is one of my favorite films ever – definitely in my top 10. So hopefully you can understand why I am so excited to see the director of that film, Alfonso Cuarón, return to the big screen finally. His new film is titled Gravity, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock as two astronauts working on the International Space Station when tragedy strikes. Aside from the setup, many details about the movie are vague, but I’m expecting an intensity not exactly common in theaters right now. There’s also a possible 17-minute long shot, which also has me very intrigued. Check out the trailer below! Read more…

Jurassic Park 4 On Hold: Spielberg Says Script Was “Crap”

Posted by Ben Huber on May 11, 2013 in Cinema

jurassic-park

We heard a few days ago that Jurassic Park 4 had been put on hold, but Universal’s reasoning was unclear. However, now we have a rumor coming out saying the Steven Spielberg himself asked the film to be halted after he stated that the script was “crap.” I feel bad for the scriptwriters, but then again – this is the guy who supported the mutant dinosaurs with guns in the original script. Not trying to rag on Steven here, but while I love his movies, sometimes his decisions are a bit bizarre. We’ll wait and see if the script gets re-written into an acceptable state, or if JP4 remains on ice for now. Read more…

New Anime from Gurren Lagann Staff: Kill la Kill

Posted by Ben Huber on May 10, 2013 in Anime

tumblr_mmje5edfpD1rw9b6io1_1280

Remember how I was getting excited for Hiroyuki Imaishi’s new studio and their work? Well their first full-length series has been announced: Kill la Kill. This show will reunite a portion of staff who worked on Gurren Lagann,  including Kazuki Nakashima (scriptwriter for the popular giant robot show), along with Imaishi. Sushio will be doing the character designs. The story will revolve around a post-apocalyptic all-girls school in which each girl has a uniform that match their skills and powers. The main character, Ryuuko, will battle against the equally powerful Satsuki, the Student Council President, who desires control of the school. Seems like a suitably ridiculous premise for a series. Check out some more concept and promotional art below. Read more…

Spock vs. Spock in Audi Ad

Posted by Ben Huber on May 10, 2013 in Star Trek

spock_vs_spock

Have you ever wanted to see Zachary Quinto or Leonard Nimoy duke it out in brutal, hand-to-hand combat? A bloody battle to the death? Well, sadly, you’ll have to wait for that – perhaps some other time. For now, you’re getting a slow-paced race between the two Spocks as they drive their cars to the golf course. Rich people problems! Yes, it’s an Audi ad. So just temper your consumerist tendencies and just enjoy the jokes they pile on. Especially the Bilbo Baggins joke. Which, if you need a refresher on that, just click here. You won’t regret it. Read more…

Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar Cast Grows

Posted by Ben Huber on May 6, 2013 in Cinema

Michael-Caine

The first name I’m going to throw at you will be no surprise: Michael Caine. Christopher Nolan’s “good luck charm” will be returning to act in his next film, Interstellar. That’s not surprising at all, given that he’s been in almost all of Nolan’s recent films. However, a new face in the Nolan-verse is Jessica Chastain, off of Zero Dark Thirty. She seems like a great pick, especially as she’s been recently showing up in a bunch of big films. So now the two new cast members sit with Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway – I want to hear more about the story now. But we’ve got a long wait till November of next year. Read more…

Omelette – A Student Film

Posted by Ben Huber on May 6, 2013 in Animation

omelette

I like to try to start off the week with something happy or neat, to beat away those Monday blues, so here’s a great little CalArts film made by Madeline Sharafian. Featuring an adorable little dog who just wants to help prepare food, this film focus on “how meaningful it is to make food for someone you love.” I’m really enjoying how many student films are catching on big with the internet – it’s great to see talented people receive recognition. Watch the video below. Read more…

Lloyd Kaufman and The Angry Video Game Nerd Play Toxic Crusaders

Posted by Ben Huber on May 5, 2013 in Cinema, Videogames

avgn_kaufman

Yes, THAT Lloyd Kaufman. The master of shlock and shock, director of Toxic Avenger and Tromeo and Juliet, Lloyd Kaufman, is featured in the latest episode of the Angry Video Game Nerd. Apparently Kaufman is also making an appearance in the AVGN’s upcoming movie, so perhaps he was in town and did this as well. But holy crap, this is an insane episode. Mostly just to see Kaufman hamming it up and pretending he knows how to play a video game (the overactive hand motions had me laughing). And as you can expect, it’s terribly NSFW, and ends in the grossest way possible (puke and feces are involved), but what else would you expect from these two teaming up? Watch the video below. Lawrence Kasdan’s Original Handwritten Empire Strikes Back Script

Posted by Ben Huber on May 5, 2013 in Star Wars

ZZ3E9DD3371-550x300

As part of the May the Fourth Star Wars day yesterday, SlashFilm got something very cool to show the internet: scans of the original script of The Empire Strikes Back script by Lawrence Kasdan. The original was donated by Kasdan to the Writers Guild Foundation Archive, and they were convinced to scan a few pages online for fans to see. It’s a really amazing piece of movie history to finally see, and if you look closely you can see Kasdan trying to figure out Yoda’s speech pattern, as well as the original scene between Leia and Han before he’s frozen in carbonite (followed by the classic story in which it was changed on-set by Ford). Check it out after the break. Read more…

The (Poorly) Talking Dead

Posted by Ben Huber on May 4, 2013 in Fandom, Television

twd

Weird dubbed-over lip readings of existing content has been a long-living subset of internet content, pioneered mainly by the brilliant and also terribly NSFW group, Dayjob Orchestra (apple juice!). Now, newer and uh, more “marketable” YouTube channels have come along singing a similar tune. Bad Lip Readings has been doing content like this for a while, but nothing really caught my attention until now, with their latest video which dubs over the Walking Dead. It’s better than the season 3 finale! Although, I guess that’s not saying much. Read more…

First Footage of Ender’s Game

Posted by Ben Huber on May 4, 2013 in Cinema

endersgame

Here you go, guys, the first footage of Ender’s Game. It looks alright, I suppose. They kind of drop a spoiler in there, but I guess they’re just running with it. I’m not incredibly excited nor against an Ender’s Game movie, but simply along for the ride. I’m sure someone else has said this too, but dang, Harrison Ford is getting old. He looks so odd juxtaposed with Asa Butterfield. Ford sounds like he hated even saying the word “YouTube.” This is only a short clip to whet your appetite, as the full trailer will be arriving on May 7th. Check it out! Read more…

Chronicle Star Michael B. Jordan up for Human Torch Role?

Posted by Ben Huber on May 3, 2013 in Cinema, Comic Books

MichaelBJordan

A short while ago we heard that the director of Chronicle, Josh Trank, would be helming the upcoming Fantastic Four film. And it seems like Trank might be dipping into his pool of actors from Chronicle for his first big-budget blockbuster – he’s reportedly getting Michael B. Jordan for the part of the Human Torch. While no formal offer has been made yet, it seems like a solid bet, given their previous history working together. I think this could be a great casting choice too, and would help freshen up the Fantastic Four, as it’s been a very stale property to me in recent times. Here’s hoping that this movie turns out well! Rumor Party: Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Avengers 2?

Posted by Ben Huber on May 3, 2013 in Cinema, Comic Books

scarlet-witch-quicksilver

Here’s a messy story floating around the internet right now: recently Joss Whedon teased that a certain brother/sister duo would show up in Avengers 2. Everyone jumped up in excitement at the idea that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver could show up, and then EW claims a source confirmed that this would be happening. So far so good, but the messiest part will be the rights. Fox owns the rights to X-Men, but Disney with the Avengers rights puts these two companies in the odd position of both being allowed to use the characters. Will Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver simply never mention their past or father? Or is Disney playing the game for the long-haul, hoping to somehow strike deals with Fox eventually? Like I said, it’s messy, and will probably only get worse as time goes on. Read more…

Six Minutes of New Clips from Only God Forgives

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 29, 2013 in Cinema

ogf

I am so very excited for Only God Forgives. Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive is one of my favorite recent movies, and his next film looks to be more moody, atmospheric, and stylish content. To promote the film, they’ve release 3 new clips that total roughly 6 minutes altogether. They’re thankfully not very spoilery, but if you want to go into the film unjaded, go no further. Trust me, they’re good. However, if you’re ready for some violence and NSFW action, click through and check out the clips. Read more…

Beyond: Two Souls Tribeca Film Festival Trailer

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 29, 2013 in Videogames

beyond

David Cage wants his game to be movies so badly that he’s debuting trailers for them at the Tribeca Film Festival. But with talent like Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe, you’re getting pretty close to movie-level status anyway. We can argue about movies and games all day, but this trailer for Beyond: Two Souls still looks pretty good. It’s got some really impressive-looking visuals as well as some great framing. Hopefully this game will turn out better than Heavy Rain did – mainly because I would like to see a “cinematic” game like this work. Check out the new trailer below. Read more…

LEGO Lord of the Rings Tower of Orthanc Revealed

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 28, 2013 in Hobbies and Collections

LEGO has long done the Ultimate Collector’s Series for Star Wars, and the Modular series of city buildings, but Lord of the Rings hasn’t gotten anything quite so elaborate – until now. The Tower of Orthanc will be the largest LEGO Lord of the Rings model to date, featuring Saruman’s imposing dwelling as well as an eagle and an Ent! I appreciate that the Ent is made out of bricks and not a pre-molded piece. This massive set will run you $200 and is arriving in July of this year. It’s just over 28 inches high and contains 2,359 pieces. Check out more images below! Read more…

First Arrested Development Clip and New Posters

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 28, 2013 in Television

Arrested Development, Season 4 Michael Cera

Are you ready for May 26th? Arrested Development will finally return and a brand new season will arrive on Netflix, all in one batch. You know, it actually feels real now. Seeing all these ads and posters, and now our first clip, Arrested Development is truly back! This orange shipping container seems to play a big part in the story, given that they’re using it in all the promotional material. The posters are all pretty basic, but it’s good to see everyone back in character. The first clip is also available courtesy of EW, featuring Buster and Lucille Bluth, so check that out right here.
